The Mansfield Light and Water Co. building, which was completed in 1919, provided the increasingly important resource of electricity to the town. Milton May Farr was contracted by the City of Mansfield to begin production of electricity through the use of pumps and engines, as well as looking after the mains and cables around the town.
The city produced its own power through the plant until 1953, when it began purchasing power from the Brazos Electric Power Cooperative, leading to the closure and eventual demolition of the Mansfield Light Plant.

Mansfield has been home to many service members over the two centuries that it has been occupied, from the Civil War to more modern conflicts, and has been proud of the dedication of its service members to their country. This photograph depicts three World War I soldiers dressed in their uniforms. The man on the far right is Elbert “Doc” Blissard, father of Harry D. Blissard, one of the two firefighters who died as a result of the Red Ball Gas House Explosion in 1968.

Katherine Rose Memorial Park originated with the purchase of a 33-acre weekend ranch by Katherine and Conway Rose, who wanted a place where their two young daughters could experience country life. After Katherine Rose died, Conway originally planned for the property to be a golf course, but after a damaging flood in 1988, plans were scrapped and transitioned to a sale to the city for the creation of a public park. Conway stipulated that the park be named after his late wife Katherine and said at the dedication ceremony that she would have been so proud to see her beloved ranch preserved in such a beautiful way.

Pictured here are Dora Prater and Claudus Verna Back in 1912 in their wedding portrait. Descended from Jacob B. Back, one of the original land grantees of Texas, the Backs lived long and prosperous lives in Mansfield, where Claudus worked as a bookkeeper at Mansfield State Bank. In 1919 the couple purchased a farm Southwest of Mansfield where they raised their two children, Jacob and Frances. Their descendants continue the long Back family legacy in Mansfield.
