Two months ago, I got an Email from my old friend Norbert Peiker's Daughter... with some very Exciting News!

Norb (the former President of Marr, Knapp & Crawfis Architects) got in touch with me when we opened the NCOIM in 2021, and he wanted me to know about his Ex-Father-in-law, Paul J Kircher. Paul was born in Germany in 1909, came to Mansfield with Westinghouse in 1963, as a Product Design Engineer; with over 50 Patents; and Paul passed away in 1974...

Paul's First Patent was Granted in 1934 for a Scale, while working for The Jacob Brothers Co in Brooklyn, NY. Then Paul moved to LFC - Landers, Frary & Clark in New Britain, CT; who manufactured Small Household Appliances, and Paul was Granted his first Patent there in 1942. Then in 1963, Paul moved to Mansfield, to work as a Design Engineer, in the Small Appliance Division of the Westinghouse Plant. Paul's first Patent for Westinghouse was for an Electric Can Opener and his last Patent in 1971 was for an Electric Saucepan.

Then Norb introduced me to his Children by Email... The Stahl Family sent me three of their Grandfathers Inventions in 2022: a Blender, Electric Toothbrush and Improved Toaster. And then, out of the blue, the Tetzloff Family Emailed... their Mom had passed away in 2021 and had all of her Fathers Patents...
Yes, Six Originals, 44 Copies and the attached photos to go with them; were shipped to NCOIM, it was the first time I'd seen Original Patents! Which will take a prime location, in our Newest Exhibit, "The Hire Family Inventors Corner". In Richland County, we have had over 3,200 Patents Granted...

The Pieker Family was living in Germany and in 1969 was Sponsored by Paul, and moved to Mansfield. Our 4th Champion of Industry is New American/Independent Oil Co, and the Founder Peter Scholl (1848-1926); who had a Farm Implement Store and Manufactured "Iron Force Pumps" (where Element of Art is today) in the late 1880's. And upon his death, Independent Oil was taken over by Ms Justine Sterkel (1877-1965).

The Oil Refinery Complex was located at the corner of N Adams & Orange Streets, at the Tracks. They would receive the Best Pennsylvania Crude Oil, to Refine into Gasoline, Greases and different Grades of Oil Products.

We try to find Family Members to Honor at the NCOIM Hall of Fame Dinner; but we could Not find any Scholls... if you know of any, please have them call us! Ms Sterkel was an only child and never married....

As a sidenote: many of you will remember Marge & Lee Thompson... Marge came to Mansfield, because her Aunt was the Reverend Mother of the Sisters of Charity of St Augenstine, who inherited Justine's Estate and Farm. There was a sign on Lexington Ave for many years, announcing the Catholic Hospital, planned for the Sterkel Farm... obviously, that never happened. Marge was responsible for closing-down and to auction-off the Personal Property and House. Then Marge began a successful Commercial Real Estate Company for many years...

TR Barnes (1862-1941) started Barnes MFG in 1895, making over 3MM Cast Iron Hand Pumps, before going bankrupt in 1933; then taken over by Millard Pryor in 1939; and run by Jack Mintz & Fred Hout and then being sold to Peabody-Galion in 1970s, Closing in 1991
