Unrelated to Oak Hill Cottage, here is an old photograph of the Richland Country Courthouse. This photograph dates from 1910. Interestingly, this was not the first courthouse that Richland County had. It was the fourth. In total, there have been five courthouses, the first built in 1812, the second in 1816, the third in 1827, the fourth in 1873, and the fifth in 1968.

This is an indexed map of Lake Minnesota from 1927. According to the writing on this map, Leile Jones of Oak Hill and her husband, Frank Barrett, owned a cottage on Harrison Bay. Not much is known about this “cottage” they had at that time there, but it is interesting to see the maps that Leile kept and the little notes she wrote on them, giving us a slight glimpse into her life.

A photograph of Ida Jones with her two children, Kathleen and Ruth Elliot.
In 1886, Ida married Lucius Elliott of Racine, Wisconsin. It was probably the most elaborate wedding in Mansfield of the era. They had two daughters together: Kathleen and Ruth. Kathleen was the oldest daughter, born in 1888. When she was twenty-three, she was chosen as one of the two most beautiful women in American. Kathleen married Burton Robinson and had two children with him.
Ruth, the second daughter, was born in 1891. She married Eugene Grimm.
