Old City Hall Gallery was built in 1901 as a fire station for the town of Maquoketa, Iowa. It later became the Maquoketa City Hall & Police Station. The fire wagons and trucks were on the 1st floor and the firemen met on the 3rd floor. . Offices were also on the 1st & 2nd floor -City council meetings were held in one large room on the 2nd floor which became the first studio for the artist Rose Frantzen. Later it became the living space for Rose & her husband Artist Charles Morris. The building has recently been painted on the exterior along with new windows, furnace & air-conditioning system, and the tearing out of the lowered ceilings to display the old tin ceilings and Historic doors. Trees had been planted in the parking lot area along with a natural wild-life prairie in back of the building. The 4 car garage has also been painted to match the Old City Hall Gallery’s color theme. web-site is www.oldcityhallgallery.com
