Plant nerds…this should be of interest.
The Public is invited:
The Falls on the Colorado Museum will be hosting the
Llano Uplift Archeological Society (LUAS) on Saturday, May 16 at 10:30 AM featuring a presentation by archaeologist
Leslie L. Bush titled “Farming and Foraging in the Texas Panhandle.”
Leslie L. Bush is a paleoethnobotanist specializing in the
identification of plant remains recovered from archaeolog-
ical contexts.
Bush will explore how Native peoples of the Texas Panhandle relied on both cultivated crops and wild plants for survival during the Antelope Creek Phase (AD 1150–1500).
Her talk will highlight the role of corn as a staple crop, alongside lesser-documented plants like beans, squash,
and to***co. She will also discuss the use of wild seeds, berries, and plant materials for textiles and construction, offering new insights into how plant use varied across sites and environments.
Dr. Bush contributes to research projects acrossthe country, including ongoing work in Texas, Oklahoma, and Michigan.
The Museum is open from 10 am - 2 pm Mondays through Saturdays. Admission is free and open to the public.
