Central New York Chapter NRHS

Central New York Chapter NRHS The Central New York Chapter, National Railway Historical Society, is dedicated to the preservation and restoration of unique railway depots and equipment.

The importance of the railroads to the growth and expansion of the United States is a compelling story. We all share a genuine interest in this all-encompassing industry which has woven an iron path across the face of the nation. It was this interest in preserving what had passed and what lay ahead that in 1935 inspired a group of historians to form the National Railway Historical Society. From fe

wer than 40 people, the NRHS grew to include more than 20,000 men and women, making it the nation's largest rail historical society.

This morning, our Martisco Station Museum hosted the Boy Scouts of America Eagle Scout Court of Honor for Adriano LeMay of Troop 80 who completed his Eagle Service Project at our station last summer. Our Chapter congratulates “Ano” for his outstanding service and accomplishment in achieving the Boy Scouts highest rank. Congratulations also to his parents; Andy and Josie of which they are justly proud.

On May 19, and May 22, we remember two remarkable men of our CNY Chapter's past on what would have been their 91st birthdays this year. Albert Kallfelz Jr. was president of our Chapter and Gerrit Vanderwerff served faithfully as Vice President. The two of them were close friends and shared a deep dedication of local railroad preservation of the Chapter's many historic railroad equipment, two railroad station museums and model railroading. The current Directors and Membership of the Central New York Chapter honor Al and Gerrit's legacy by carrying on their preservation efforts today and into the future.
