After working with various materials and mediums, Gerstein embraced steel and used it to create works that were completely new to the art world. Gerstein fashions his pieces from layers of cut-out steel and then hand-paints them in bold, vibrant colors. His works are playful in spirit yet mind-boggling in complexity, featuring a myriad of colorful butterflies, exotic birds, bicyclists, flowers, and jazz musicians among other subjects. Gerstein’s wall sculptures are featured in numerous public spaces around the world, from his native Israel to United Kingdom to France, Germany, and Korea. He is famous for his outdoor sculptures, which beautifully embellish shopping centers and city squares around the globe.
