Tours of The Castle are available April through December, but we provide a full calendar of history-related events throughout the year. Archaeology digs, themed house tours, food history dinners, cemetery tours, and summer history camps are among the many programs we offer. Spend your summer solstice evening surrounded by music, history, and the beauty of The Castle grounds ✨
As the sun sets on the longest day of the year, enjoy an outdoor concert by R&R paired with insight from archaeologist Wes Clarke about the ancient earthworks and the significance of the solstice in our region.

We're sharing a first look at this year's History Camp activity schedule, and we couldn't be more excited!

This summer, campers will step into the years 1820–1840 through hands-on experiences exploring early industry, fashion and publishing, historic cooking, science and technology, public education, social reform, transportation, photography, agriculture, and more.

Throughout the week, campers will:
- Build a railroad
- Explore early photography
- Learn textile weaving
- Discover 1830s cooking and baking
- Map the growing United States
- Learn about herbs, spices, geology, and clean water
- Explore the abolition movement, public education, and libraries
…and much more!

History Camp takes place July 6–10 from 9:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. at The Castle and is open to students entering grades 3–6.

We are excited for this year's History Camp and can't wait to welcome campers for a week of exploration, discovery, and hands-on learning!

This July 6–10, 9 a.m.–3 p.m. daily, campers entering grades 3–6 will step back in time to explore the era of Expansion & Change(1820–1840) through engaging activities, games, crafts, demonstrations, and interactive learning experiences led by educators, community partners, and historical experts.

From transportation and technology to daily life and westward expansion, each day is packed with opportunities to discover the people, places, and innovations that helped shape early America.

If you've been thinking about signing up, now is a great time to reserve your camper's spot! Registration remains open through Friday, June 19.

Are you a traditional craftsperson, artisan, maker, or living history interpreter?

Museums in the Mid-Ohio Valley, including The Castle Museum, Campus Martius and Ohio River Museum , and Southeast Ohio History Center are building a network of individuals and groups interested in participating in future museum and public programming opportunities!

We are looking for people who practice historically rooted trades and crafts — whether you use modern methods inspired by traditional skills or demonstrate fully historic techniques, tools, and materials.

Possible opportunities may include:

• Festivals & fairs
• School programs
• Living history events
• Summer camp activities
• Hands-on educational programming

For thousands of years, cultures around the world have celebrated the summer solstice, and right here in Marietta, Native Americans marked the event through alignments on the prehistoric earthworks. ☀️
Experience this fascinating connection between history, astronomy, and community during The Castle’s Summer Solstice Concert on Thursday, June 18 at 7PM. Staff archaeologist Wes Clarke will provide commentary throughout the evening alongside live music from R&R.
