This exhibit represents the recent work of the Asheville Printmakers. The prints displayed here are examples of the enormous variety of artwork that can be created through the many types of printmaking employed by this diverse group of local artists. Asheville Printmakers is an independent alliance of artists in the greater Asheville, NC area who work in print media. Collectively, members work in a wide range of styles from classic to contemporary, and practice both traditional and experimental processes. The group meets regularly to exchange ideas and plan exhibitions that range throughout the western North Carolina area.

“Persistence of Vision”, The afterimage, or ‘negative afterimage’, is the optical illusion created by the human eye and brain, which retains an image after the light source ceases. Sometimes the image seems to be imprinted on the back of our eyelids. This could be said to be our most original and primitive form of image-making. Our eye creates a ‘print’ or ‘photo,’ however fleetingly, without the need for a print plate or a negative.
