Before and after photos from my Sunday power washing of the Diamond Jet. The next step after washing will be polishing the paint and leading edges. Might hook up some external power from time to time so that folks can see the cockpit come alive. Of course I’ll be disabling the engine start capability! Might disable the Radar as well!

Channel 9 here in St Louis has produced a great new program called Flight Check about the metro area’s aviation industry. There is some great history throughout the video. You can wait for the network re-broadcast or you can watch the entire program on the link below.

The clean up on the museum’s Diamond Jet has begun! We will open the jet up during operating hours so that folks, particularly kids, can in a see what a modern jet cockpit looks like. The museum will be working closely with the Gateway Youth Aeronautical Foundation in hangar D-8 who will be able to use this for their STEM program. One wing is clean and when the entire exterior has been washed we will begin the job of polishing it. Volunteers are always welcome!

The museum’s Mitsubishi Diamond Jet had to move off the ramp for the remarking project so this was a great opportunity to bring it over in front of Museum building #3. It will get a bath and a polish so it can be opened up during tour days for kids to see what a corporate jet looks like inside!

We have been watching the weather forecasts each day, keeping a watch on what the winds are doing as well as the cloud cover percentages as we narrow down just WHEN we will move the Spirit from Arlington Municipal Airport where she currently resides ... to Jefferson County International Airport where she will be placed on static display in the Port Townsend Aero Museum.
We are leaning toward making that move on Wednesday May 13th in the early morning hours. That being said, it could still be pushed off to Thursday instead, but as we've been watching conditions over the past couple of weeks ... it looks more and more like it will probably be Wednesday.
I will post again with the date we choose and the time so folks who would like to see her can make plans to be either in Arlington to say "good bye" or in Port Townsend to say "hello" and welcome her to her new home!
As we prepare to move our replica later this week, we are reminded that Charles Lindbergh broke the transcontinental record when he 'moved' his original "Spirit of St. Louis" 99-years ago today.
That flight took 14 hours and 25 minutes; considerably longer than our move from Arlington to Port Townsend will take 😉.
