The Mashantucket Pequot Museum & Research Center is the world's largest Native American Museum and brings to life the story of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation. Through multi-sensory dioramas and exhibits, we introduce visitors to the history of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribe and the natural and cultural history of the Eastern Woodlands. Films, videos, interactive programs, archival materials, ethnographic and archaeological collections, commissioned art and traditional crafts by Native artisans are featured in the exhibits.

What can a doll tell us about Native culture? More than you might think.
Neetôpáwees, the Pequot word for “little friends,” explores the many roles dolls have played in Native communities. While some were made as toys, others served as gifts, teaching tools, and ways to preserve stories, traditions, and cultural knowledge.
Dolls can also tell us about the land and the resources available to the people who made them. Corn husk, birch bark, Spanish moss, palmetto, leather, beads, and other materials were transformed into figures that reflected Native clothing, daily activities, stories, and traditions.

Today, October 18, we celebrate Federal Recognition Day for the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation.

On this day in 1983, the Mashantucket Pequot Indian Claims Settlement Act was signed into law, formally recognizing the Nation’s government-to-government relationship with the United States.

As we commemorate this anniversary, we honor the generations who protected their ancestral home, preserved their culture, and worked toward this historic achievement.

There’s always more to discover at the Pequot Museum.

Explore thousands of years of Mashantucket Pequot history and culture through immersive exhibits, a recreated 16th-century Pequot Village, interactive experiences, films, and more.

Make a day of it and explore the Museum, grab lunch at the Pequot Café, and stop by the Museum Store before you head home.

Our current hours are Wednesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Today, we recognize Indigenous Peoples Day and honor the history, cultures, and living communities of Indigenous peoples.

At the Pequot Museum, visitors can learn about the history and enduring culture of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation through exhibits, programs, collections, and experiences that connect the past with the present.

Indigenous cultures are living cultures, carried forward through generations in stories, songs, languages, traditions, and relationships with the land. We invite you to visit, learn, and experience the Pequot story, while taking time to learn from and support Indigenous communities, artists, educators, and storytellers.

We honor the generations who have carried these traditions forward and continue to shape their communities and their futures.
