Mathews Maritime Foundation & Museum The Mathews Maritime Foundation’s mission is to preserve, present, and participate in the rich maritime and cultural heritage of Mathews County, VA.

Our museum is OPEN from April to November. The Mathews Maritime Foundation currently operates the Mathews Maritime Museum and Gwynn's Island Boat Shop as part of their effort to preserve, present, and participate in the rich maritime and cultural heritage of Mathews County, Virginia.

Dennis has crafted a beautiful new display case for "Eugenia", our newest acquisition. Gabriel "Gabe" Francis Miller (1821-1910), an experienced journeyman shipwright carved this model and from it built the 61’ EUGENIA at his boatyard on Blackwater Creek, off the North River in 1843.
