Art can be a tool for personal and collective liberation. Angelic forces can be unleashed through your paintbrush. Making art is a way of praying. CoSM is an Art Church. We encourage everyone to recognize themselves as reflections of the divine and to cultivate their unique creative path to greater meaning. CoSM members are an important part of the team that is building Entheon, a sanctuary of visionary art.

Art can make the brain's wiring stronger, more flexible and ready to learn, say the authors of a new book, Your Brain on Art: How the Arts Transform Us.

Words of wisdom. 🎨

Everyday I paint. It is a spiritual practice.
Yoga, meditation, walking, painting…
Practice does not mean β€œgetting it right.”
Practice is doing it over and over.

If we haven't done yoga in awhile, we may not be able to touch our toes, but if we practice everyday for a week, improvement is soon evident. To play an instrument, we have to commit to practicing. Everyday is best. If we want to walk on our last day, we'd do well to walk everyday.

To see rapid progress in your practice, select the best time and keep your appointment. Paying for a series of classes or a workshop is a good way to insure your commitment. When we pay, we are more likely to pay attention.

Practice occurs in the material world and therefore involves time and space.
We need to designate a space for our practice. For an art practice, gather your materials around a desk, table or easel that you can β€œown” for this activity, even a corner of a room. An attractive space will attract you to return there.

If your spot for doing yoga means you have to move the coffee table, you are less apt to follow through on that daily commitment. If your art materials are in a dark, damp basement or a chilly garage, that activity is being given a low priority and will not attract your best work. Be able to drop into a space with proper light and materials ready when you are ready to work.

To choose the best material for yourself, consider what attracts you.
Gift yourself with the BEST materials you can afford.
Crummy brushes or cheap paint will frustrate your results.
Supplies can be simple and few but must be of the finest quality.
Best paper. Best brushes. Best paint. Invest in your passion.
Consider the materials of the art that attracts you.
If you are starting or restarting, a class using those materials can be helpful.

Content is perhaps the most important consideration.
What do you want to make art about? Look at a lot of art to cultivate this understanding. Go to art exhibits to see originals and notice what subjects, styles, paint applications, etc. attract your sensibilities. Look at and Study the art books and online. Follow on Instagram the artists you admire.
