Tannehill Museum The Tannehill Museum is shown by appointments only. The Museum is shown at no general admission, but donations are appreciated.

The Tannehill Historical Museum was started by Jim and Edna Tannehill in the 1950s with a collection of western memorabilia and items that Jim Tannehill and the members his platoon brought home with them after their tour in the Pacific Theater of World War II. Today the Tannehill Historical Museum hosts an assortment of exhibits that any member of the family will enjoy. Some of the featured exhibi

ts include a identical replica of the “Old Sparky” electric chair once at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary, guns and weapons collections from around the world, a doll collection, and various artifacts.

Represented the Tannehill Historical Museum at the historical Wardens House at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary with Warden Dan Reynolds (RET.) New book release ‘The Wardens Mansion’. Dan Reynolds book about the history of the Mansion on the grounds of OSP. The event hosted several past Wardens whom lived in the Mansion told interesting stories about living on prison grounds, a guided tour of the mansion grounds and Dan Reynolds giving an overview of the contents of his new book. A lot of rich history with regards to OSP has been preserved by Dan Reynolds works. It was a privileged to personally meet many of the past Wardens from the Oklahoma State Penitentiary and for those of you that I know want to know…. About 1/3rd of those polled whom have lived there say its haunted which is in the book! Thank you again Dan Reynolds for allowing me and our Historical Museum to be apart of your newest book and we look forward to working together again in the future.

An effort is underway at the State Capitol to bring back a decades-long tradition at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary in McAlester. For nearly 70 years, people from all over the world came to watch prisoners take part in barrel racing, calf roping, and other rodeo activities. The event came to an end...
