The McCloud Heritage Junction Museum will be open this weekend, beginning Saturday, at 11:00 am.

We apologize for our lack of visibility. Both our sign and our number have been removed for a much needed facelift to the building. Stay tuned for photos, but for now, we are the two story gray building, right next to the Post Office.

In Loving Memory of Maylon Friday

Hello and good day to all who are reading.

We invite community members, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Maylon to join us in honoring her memory at a Celebration of Life.

The service will be held on Tuesday, April 21st at 1:00 PM at the McCloud American Legion Hall, located at 232 Broadway Avenue, McCloud, CA. This gathering is intended as a space for the community to come together, share memories, and celebrate the life and spirit of Maylon.

Maylon passed away peacefully at her home on the evening of Tuesday, March 24th. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.

A separate, private family memorial will be held around Labor Day Weekend.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Maylon’s honor, with proceeds going toward the McCloud Heritage Museum—an offering that reflects her connection to the community and its history.

We thank you for your love, support, and for helping us celebrate a life so meaningful to many.

Take part in remembering Maylon Susan Friday. Read her obituary, share your own memories, and learn about any funeral details on Ever Loved.

It is with deep sorrow that we share the passing of Maylon Friday. Maylon was an integral part of the formation of the McCloud Heritage Junction Museum. Her love of history was a great benefit to the Museum, as she read and documented information that is still invaluable today.

We extend our sincere condolences to Maylon's family. Her hard work and hundreds of hours of work will not be forgotten.

Before “tap to pay,” there was this!

A couple of our deputies teamed up with our alternative custody crew to move a GIANT antique cash register out of storage and back to the Shasta Historical Society, and let’s just say this thing doesn’t exactly fit in your pocket. This piece is known as the “Dobrowsky Register.” The Dobrowsky pioneer family came to Shasta in 1849, then moved their jewelry store from Shasta to Redding in the 1880s. The store was located downtown, close to the jail.

Somewhere along the way, we went from lifting hundreds of pounds to process a sale… to waving a card over a reader the size of a sticky note.

Glad to help bring another piece of history home after the Society’s flood damage a few years ago.

Want to check out more history? The Historical Society is in downtown Redding at 1449 Market Street.

Does anyone remember what happened 60 years ago in McCloud?

1966 was the year that McCloud ceased to be a company town, when the firm John Galbreath Company of Ohio acquired title to residences and commercial buildings from U.S. Plywood Corp. (recorded April 28 in Yreka) after the town's subdivision was done in 1965. The McCloud Theater, Hospital and Laundry had closed the year before.

Galbreath then proceeded to offer the properties for sale to the occupants/operators. In addition the McCloud Community Services District was formed to take over the town's services from the Company. The valuation of property within the Service District boundaries was estimated at $600,000.

Feel free to comment with any memories/photos from this important year!
