Happy Labor Day Weekend! 🇺🇸🚂

This weekend we’re celebrating the hardworking men and women, past and present, who have played such an important part in Pike County’s history.

Of course, the railroad is a huge part of that story, but there’s so much more inside the Depot. We have pieces of history from communities all across Pike County, and we’re continuing to find and add things to our exhibits as we go.

If you’ve downloaded our app, take a minute to click on ‘Railroad Family’. You can meet some of our railroad workers, see the positions they held and read some of their stories. We’re adding more as we get photos and information, so check back every now and then!

Better yet, come see us! 🚂 There’s always someone at the museum who would be happy to show you around, tell you a few stories and answer your questions.

Stop by next time we’re open. You might learn something new about the place we call home!

Hours of operation:
Thursday-Friday 10am-4pm

We hope everyone has a safe and happy Labor Day weekend! ❤️

Ok, McComb people, our copy and a museum copy arrived today. I am ready to get started on Randall O’Brien’s newest book. It is a joy to see such a successful McComb boy:
Decorated Viet Nam vet, Author, speaker, pastor, college professor and Provost of Baylor University, and President Emeritus of Carson Newman University. MHS CLASS OF ‘67 has another great one!

The McComb Railroad Depot Museum welcomed its 1,000th guest this summer.

Since the depot opened on March 7, 1,342 people have walked through the door — 346 of them in July and August alone. Among visitors who sign in with an address, 49% are right here in Pike County, and 30% have traveled in from outside Mississippi.

August was the museum's biggest out-of-state month yet: half of its visitors came from another state. A small museum in south Mississippi is turning up on people's travel plans.

Across 177 days open, the museum has generated $10,166 in guest income and $162 in sales tax for the City.

Thank you to Sam and Ganeath Daniel for everything you continue to pour into this place.

MEMORABLE ARTIFACTS FROM THE DEPOT MUSEUM

This is a typical sales receipt from the early Twentieth Century. Denman-Alford Department Store was located at 220 and 222 Main Street. Later on, Wall's Mercantile and Shainberg's occupied this space. Denman-Alford specialized in dry goods, men and women clothes, shoes, hats, caps, and furnishings. It was established by W.T. Denman and J.B. Alford in 1900 and it remained in business until 1970. At a later date, the store was relocated to the corner of State Street and North Broadway.

The receipt was the property of Albert H. Andrews who lived at 514 Fifth St. Mr. Andrews kept all of his receipts in a box until the end of the year when he rolled all his receipts up, secured them with twine, and kept them in a safe place. Mr. Andrews' son, Albert E. "Bill" Andrews, was an employee of the ICRR and was mayor of McComb in the 1950s. Both men are buried in Hollywood Cemetery in McComb.

Al Andrews, son of Bill Andrews, donated the receipt along with many others to the Depot Museum.

Something positive for the Depot District ! It was clean up time today!
Sam and I spoke to the Mayor and Board of Selectmen and Selectwoman on Tuesday
evening about the trash under the bridge, at the Depot picnic shed, and the general litter left by roamers and unhoused.
I am not sure to whom the “Thank You” should go, but the clean up is appreciated. Yay McComb and the ones who helped!
