This , we’re honored to share a meaningful restoration effort that highlights the importance of historic cemeteries in telling Collin County’s story.
For many years, the Collin County History Museum has cared for a number of historic grave markers in storage. Thanks to a grant from the Collin County Historical Commission, we’ve begun the important work of returning these markers to the cemeteries where they belong.
Historic cemeteries are rich records of our community’s past. They reflect changing customs, family ties, religious beliefs, and the hardships faced by earlier generations. Each marker adds to our understanding of the people who shaped Collin County.
One of the first restorations was just completed last week at Bear Creek Cemetery in Nevada, Texas. This marker belongs to the infant son of F.J.F. and M.R. Faulconer, born August 12, 1892, and who passed just one day later on August 13, 1892. Though his life was brief, restoring his marker ensures his story is not forgotten.
Bear Creek Cemetery, with marked graves dating back to 1873, has long been preserved through the dedication of Becky and Bob Sander-Cederlof and the Bear Creek Cemetery Foundation. We are deeply grateful for their partnership and commitment to honoring those laid to rest there.
We also extend our sincere thanks to Texas Cemetery Restoration for their exceptional craftsmanship and care in restoring this monument, and to the Collin County Historical Commission and the Collin County Commissioners Court for providing the grant that made this work possible.
It is a privilege to help return these pieces of history to their rightful homes.
