Final artwork of 2025! A black leafless tree with freeform branches and silver lining. Splitting the backdrop of the tree in half, I used a warm color scheme for the left side and a cool color scheme for the right side. Thus, creating some complimentary contrast. Materials used include black marker, dual-tip brush pens, and silver colored pencil.

Happy New Year! Hoping to continue with a new batch of artworks in 2026!

“Mummies - Movements I - IV”
5.5 x 5.7 each
Dual-tip brush pens and black marker

This movement of artworks I made is rather obscure and unusual for my standard style, but I wanted to try something different - something mysterious and macabre.

When I was 14, my father took me to the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia to see the mummy exhibit. Despite my apprehension in the beginning, I ended up finding it strangely fascinating. The mummies on display came from beyond Egypt - in fact they came from almost every continent. When looking up images for these pieces, I ended up reuniting with some of the mummies I had seen at the museum - most of them originating in South America. Included are the following individual movements:

- Movement I: Adult Female
- Movement II: Adult Male
- Movement III: Child
- Movement IV: Baboon

If you like them, be sure to tell me which one is your favorite of the four!

Made with mixed media

I wanted to get back into my Tim Burton style portraits, so here’s my latest one! This portrait depicts one of my favorite singer-songwriters of all time; the incomparable India Arie.
A native of Denver, Colorado, India has become a staple of soul and R&B throughout the 2000s and is still making music today. Many of her compositions deal with themes of self-acceptance, race, love, and body positivity. She has a smooth, rich alto singing voice and proficient in playing the guitar and flute. Recommended listenings: “Video,” “Steady Love,” “Get It Together,” and “I Am Not My Hair.” 🪈🎸🎤

If anyone has suggestions of who I should draw next, please let me know!

Made with mixed media

Continuing with my Tim Burton style portraits, I decided to create a portrait of Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Chappell Roan.
She has a large fan base among my friends as well as being an instant icon among the LGBTQ+ community. Otherwise known as Kayleigh Rose Amstutz of Willard, Missouri - she has delved into the realms of pop and alternative music with her hits such as “Die Young,” “Red Wine Supernova,” “School Nights,” “Hot To Go!,” and of course, “Pink Pony Club.” She is notable for her drag queen aesthetics - which I find very fascinating. Her outfit is a nod to the princess outfit she wore when accepting her Grammy award for Best New Artist.

As usual, the mixed media I used contains black ink, markers, and colored pencils. I truly had a lot of fun creating this piece! Let me know who I should draw Tim Burton style in the comments!

“The Beautiful Stranger”
5.5 x 8.5
Made with mixed media

I will admit, I’ve been on a Tim Burton art kick lately. Today’s piece is centered around a well-known ghost story from the West Coast. The depicted subject in the piece is Kate Morgan; a beautiful woman from Iowa who was a housekeeper. She was estranged from her husband but later found a happier relationship with her boyfriend Albert Allan - who was a gambler. She used her beauty to distract his opponents. However, she had an argument with Albert, which resulted in her being left alone as she boarded the train to Coronado, California. Kate arrived at the Hotel del Coronado on November 24, 1892 and checked in under the alias “Lottie A. Bernard.” The hotel staff described her as a beautiful woman with no luggage and rather depressed, soft-spoken, and sickly. It was believed she was waiting for one of these male companions to join her. She claimed her brother, whom was a doctor, was on his way to check up on her. But days later, she lost hope. On November 29, 1892, her body was found dead on the steps leading to the beach. She had previously purchased a firearm days before - which led to the speculation it was a death by su***de. But the bullet hole did not match the firearm - which led to more questions. Before she was identified, she was referred to as the Beautiful Stranger. However, since 1983, hotel guests have reported that they have seen, heard, and felt her ghostly presence within the hotel walls. Particularly in room 3327, which was the room she stayed in.

All monochromatic, I used markers, black pen, and black colored pencil to make this portrait. It’s never too early to get into the spooky spirit!

“To The Fairest”
5.5 x 8.5
Mixed Media

Revisiting the style of Tim Burton, I illustrated a rather modernized interpretation of an iconic scene in Homer’s epic poem 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙄𝙡𝙞𝙖𝙙. A mixture of black ink, markers, and colored pencils was used to create this piece.

To summarize the tale - Eris, the Greek goddess of discord was the one deity excluded from celebrating the marriage of Queen Thetis and King Peleus of Phthia. Unbeknownst, Eris invites herself to the wedding party and offers a golden apple inscribed “To The Fairest” on it. This then starts a feud between three Olympian goddesses; Athena (left) - goddess of wisdom and war, Hera (middle) - queen of deities, and Aphrodite (right) - goddess of love and beauty. They quarrel over that they are the fairest, most beautiful, and most deserving of the apple. They somewhat settle the feud by tasking a young Trojan Prince named Paris as their deciding factor. All three of them bribe Paris - Athena promising powerful strength and immortality, Hera promising unlimited wealth, and Aphrodite promising his hand in marriage to the most beautiful woman who has ever existed. Paris; not too bright and rather shallow, chooses Aphrodite - which leave bitterness among the other two goddesses. Which later started one of the most infamous wars of all Greek mythology.

As you can see, I made portrayed the three goddesses as modern-day humans wearing casual and non-historical clothing. I had a lot of fun making this. And a special thanks to my 6th grade history teacher Dori Ann for teaching me about this subject matter!
