Downing House Museum

Downing House Museum Working to preserve the local history of Scotland County for future generations the Scotland County Historical Society maintains the Downing House Museum.

On September 1, 1978, the Scotland County Historical Society purchased the Downing House and have been restoring it to its original condition. Since then, the Downing House Complex has been expanded to include 5 buildings; Downing House, Boyer House, Memphis Depot, Summer Kitchen and the Carriage House.

The Downing House Museum Complex is currently open for tours every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 1:00 to 4:00 through the end of August. Tours may also be arranged for other days and times by calling 660 465 2259.

Thank you to the ladies at the Downing House complex today for hosting our 3rd graders on a wonderful tour to finish up their Missouri history lessons! It was a wonderful morning!

The Scotland County Historical Society is taking bids for mowing and lawn care at the Downing House Museum Complex for the 2025 season.
