David Butler Art Memphis watercolor artist. Growing up in the Memphis area, The Bluff City is home. Teaching since 2001, I strive to create and learn something new.

It is the relationship with this city that has impacted my work in such an iconic way. It is only appropriate for the city founded on the river and built on cotton to be captured by water on cotton fibers, showing the rich textures through bold colors. Capturing Memphis’ architectural and cultural landscape with vibrant colors reflects both the city’s rich history and the artist’s disposition. Fo

23 years ago, one of my brothers, was paralyzed in a mountain bike accident. Thanks to performing miracles, john will be able to walk. We need to raise some money to make this happen. John and I grew up going to Hueys most weekends to listen to live music and shoot toothpicks into the ceiling. JP and Hueys will always be connected for me.

I’ve been excited about this piece for a long time now. I wanted to do something that was both quirky and legendary. In a setting fit for a River town, “Memphis Royalty” has our Kings, Princes, Hustlers and Heroes... it even has Shaft. They called his place home and made Memphis better. I don’t think I would be able to sit at this table as they would have taken every Penny I had. Memphis Royalty is 20”x24” will debut at Art at ECS this Saturday at 7:00pm.

Workshop this weekend July 28th

When my aunt sold her childhood home, she took pictures of all the places that were important. The Old smokehouse out back was the first of a series of paintings of this property.
If your looking to learn how to preserve your memories as well or just want to tinker with watercolors, I’m teaching a workshop . This Saturday from 10-1. If your looking to beat the heat- joint me indoors where Im looking forward to sharing some fun watercolor, perspective drawing and painting techniques. Room still available. Skill level: beginner to intermediate. Class fee of $175 includes all your materials and instruction. Call the shop 901-323-3008 to reserve your spot.
