Today in Memphis Music history, Isaac Hayes won his Academy Award for Best Original Song, "Theme from Shaft," on April 10, 1972. This win made him the first African-American to win an Oscar in a non-acting category.
To pay tribute to, and further educate the world about, the Memphis Music icons who shook our planet! America’s music exploded out of Memphis.
