Be Part of the Story at Wilson Place Museum! History is preserved by people who care. And we could use a few more caring hands!

Wilson Place Museum is more than a beautiful historic home. It's a place where Menomonie's stories come to life, where visitors discover our community's past, and where volunteers make it all possible.

We are looking for friendly, enthusiastic people who would enjoy being part of something special!

There are several ways to get involved:

* Tour Guides – Share the fascinating stories of Wilson Place and the people who shaped Menomonie.

* Tour Assistants – Help our guides and visitors enjoy a wonderful museum experience.

* Gift Shop Volunteers – Welcome guests and help make every visit memorable.

* Gardening & Grounds Volunteers – Help care for the beautiful surroundings of this historic property.

* And We Especially Need Holiday Volunteers!

The holiday season is just around the corner, and we are hoping to fill Wilson Place with the magic of Christmas!

* Holiday Decorators – Help us transform the museum into a beautiful Victorian Christmas setting.

* Holiday Decorating & Undecorating Helpers – Lend a hand putting up decorations and carefully packing them away when the season ends.

* Holiday Tour Volunteers – Help welcome visitors and share the beauty and history of Wilson Place during our special November and December holiday tours.

Our holiday tours depend on having enough volunteers to make them possible. Every helping hand brings us closer to sharing this wonderful holiday tradition with the community!

You don't have to be a history expert to volunteer! Just bring your enthusiasm, a welcoming smile, and a willingness to help. We'll help you learn along the way.

Whether you can give a few hours occasionally, help during the holidays, or become a regular volunteer, your time truly makes a difference.

Exciting Improvements at the Wilson Place Museum!
There's a little construction happening at the Wilson Place - and we are excited about what's coming!
We are installing new sidewalks that will extend around the entire house, creating a more welcoming pathway around the museum and grounds.
Projects like this are an important part of caring for the Wilson Place. While preserving a historic property means protecting its history and character, it also means making thoughtful improvements that help ensure the property can be enjoyed for years to come.
Over the next few weeks, you may notice some construction around the grounds as the work progresses. We will share some photos along the way so you can watch the transformation with us!
We are excited to see the finished result and very grateful for another investment being made for the future of the Wilson Place Museum.

Happy Birthday, James Huff Stout!

Today, September 25th, we celebrate the birthday of James Huff Stout (1848–1910) — a man whose vision helped shape Menomonie and whose legacy continues to be felt in our community today.

Stout was an educator, businessman, philanthropist, and a strong believer in practical education. His work in Menomonie eventually led to the institution we know today as UW–Stout.

But James Huff Stout’s story is also woven into the stories of the families and people you’ll meet at the Wilson Place Museum.

And tomorrow is a perfect day to learn more!

Join us Saturday, September 26th for a guided tour of Wilson Place and discover the people, relationships, industries, and ideas that helped build Menomonie.

First tour for today. Tim Dotseth is the tour guide today. He always start the tou outside sharing the history of Menomonie and the transformations of the Wilson Place. Tickets are still available today for 1pm and 2pm. Buy your tickets in the gift shop.

The Wilson Place is open a couple more hours. Stop by and pick up your time capsule packet in the Wilson Place Giftshop. Share your thoughts to the future. You can choose from three Time Capsule options. The 10 year, 50 year and the 100 year time capsule. Learn more about them here.

As part of the Wilson Place Museum’s 50th Anniversary, we launched a special Time Capsule Project inviting members of our community to do something we don’t often have the opportunity to do: intentionally leave a piece of today for the future.
