Around this time of year, back in 2008, we took a trip to Maine. A friend has a cottage on one of the little ocean inlets and always offers to let us stay in the home in Sept just before they close it up for the winter. When we go, we usually fly, but two out of the four boys were home, wanted to go with us, so we drove.
Awesome time. No crowds. Also no TV or internet. There was nothing to do but relax, read, regroup and eat. Lobster boats puttered by the dock and mussels were easy pickin off shore. Paddled around in kayaks, did a lot of walking. Bugs were at a minimum. The smell of the pine trees was amazing.
We took some day trips to Portland, Freeport and several smaller towns. One town, Wiscasset, was a cool little artsy kind of place. We spent a good part of a day there.
All too soon, it was time to head home.
Back at work, I got a phone call. Someone in Wiscasset had seen the logo on my van and called about having a canvas made. She sent me the file, I made her a canvas print. I've been printing her family photos onto canvas ever since. It's been fun watching her family's children grow. She has also become my long distance email/phone pal. She's told me I am her go to person for family and friend gifts.
All because we decided to drive instead of fly. Amazing how powerful advertising on a vehicle can be. You never know who will become your best customer!
