The Meridian Museum of Art (MMA) is housed in the historic Old Carnegie Library building, which was constructed in 1912-13, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and as a Mississippi Landmark. The Museum seeks to promote and support the art, artists, and art programs of our area and region through art education, exhibitions, collections, collaborations with other organizations,

special events, and community involvement. MMA programs are designed to further these goals and to make art accessible to everyone in the community. The Museum serves an audience from across the state and region, but primarily from Meridian and Lauderdale County and the surrounding counties: Kemper, Neshoba, Newton, Jasper, and Clarke (in MS), and Sumter and Choctaw (in AL). Major Museum programs include:

Art Education – Museum School programs include classes for youths and adults, Model Studios, tours, gallery talks, talk-back programs, the Art Library, and support of the education efforts of other organizations. Youth programs include seasonal arts & crafts workshops, a full slate of Summer Classes, youth membership, and exhibits – with accompanying receptions – of children’s artwork from local schools and organizations. Artist Group – Artists meet monthly for painting sessions, demonstrations, workshops and classes, plein aire painting expeditions, exhibits, and field trips. Community Involvement – Programs that support other organizations, promote the Museum, foster involvement in the arts, and allow the MMA to be an active and valuable part of the community

Exhibitions – Excitingly diverse exhibits that feature the finest artists in Mississippi and Alabama in solo and group shows, invitational exhibits, and the Bi-State and People’s Choice Competitions. Exhibits are designed to support and promote the artists of our region while also entertaining and educating Museum visitors. Outreach – Support of the art programs of schools and other organizations, area economic development efforts, participation in community events, and “satellite exhibits” that take Museum artwork “on the road”

Permanent Collection – Focusing on collecting and displaying the work of renowned regional and Mississippi artists

Special Events & Membership Programs – Including the Members Shows, Black History Month Program, Patron’s Party, Martinis at the Museum, the Art Auction, and Membership Gala.

Want to get creative this summer? We have some great options for you!

In addition to our regular slate of youth classes, we are offering three adult workshops this summer! Options include:

Gelli plate Monoprint Printmaking-
A fun, highly forgiving printmaking technique where artists apply acrylic paint to a flexible gel plate, create textures, patterns or designs, then transfer the unique image onto paper as a monoprint. It’s perfect for exploring color theory, layering, and non-representational art without the need for an expensive press.

Photocopy Transfer on Hardboard-
Photocopy transfer to hardboard (or high-density fiberboard) allows you to create rustic, permanent designs. This classic technique requires an image from a laser printer or photocopier, or even a high-end magazine image, an acrylic gel medium, and a bit of patience for peeling away the paper backing. These designs can be used as a basis for encaustic collage and painting.

Encaustic Collage and Painting on Hardboard-
Technique involves fusing layers of molten beeswax, pigments, paper, fabric, or lightweight ephemera. The hot wax acts as both the adhesive and the protective topcoat, creating luminous, textured surfaces with incredible archival durability.

If you want to try out a new technique, sharpen your skills, or just have fun, come join us! More information and registration can be found on our website!

Select a class from the list below, choose the corresponding option in the dropdown menu, then click “Select Class & Register.” If you have any trouble with the registration process, please give us a call at (601) 693-1501 or email [email protected] . June 15-19 C

Artists, The Meridian Museum of Art is pleased to invite you to participate in our annual ARTinis at the Museum fundraiser exhibition and auction on June 18. Participating artists are not required to pay an entry fee for the event.

We are asking participating artists to create an original 8” x 8” artwork on canvases provided by the museum. Panels are available for pickup Tuesday through Saturday, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., at the museum.

This year’s ARTinis theme is Channeling Phyllis Diller — celebrating bold creativity, humor, individuality, and expressive flair. We encourage artists to interpret the theme in their own unique style and medium. Phyllis Diller appeared at the Temple Theatre in Meridian on June 18, 1974, in a presentation hosted by the museum.

ARTinis is one of the museum’s signature annual events and helps support exhibitions, educational programming, and community outreach throughout the year. Your participation helps make these programs possible, and we are deeply grateful for your support and creativity.

We hope you will join us for another exciting and inspiring exhibition.

Please contact us with any questions, and thank you for supporting the Meridian Museum of Art.

Warm regards,

Kate Cherry
