On April 22,1997 a group of people with a common interest and enthusiasm for forming a historical society gathered at the Mexico Public Library. Terry Williams was elected followed by Hershel Noyes, Calvin Lyons, Irene Hutchison, Connie Tutlis, Bob Daigle, and at present Caroline Mitchell. In 1999 the society purchased the house and property at 3 Oxford Street from Tom Dickson and it became the ho

me of the Mexico Historical Society. Calvin Lyons along with help from other members held Beano Games at The Sons of Italy Hall in Smith Crossing and in April of 2003 the mortgage was burned. The building was named "The Wills Homestead Museum" in honor of its original owners Mr. Arthur Wills and his wife Sadie Bennett who built the house in 1903.Arthur and Sadie had two daughters Florence and Lillian. Florence married Telix Gogan and they had two sons Arthur and Robert. Arthur and Sadie willed their home to their two daughters Florence and Lillian who converted the house to a two family apartment. Our building is forever being restored and furnished to coincide with its early 1900's design. Our country kitchen will bring you back to the days when a mother knew what a hard day's work in the kitchen meant. The barn features many old tools from the past.as well as nine man bobsled. The hayloft of the barn has been transformed into a one room school with a potbelly stove in the corner. Photos banners, trophies, and uniforms of the Mexico High School era are on display. The library and research room is a great resource for historians and genealogists. Town reports, maps, Peps, Photos, books and genealogies are available for use in the building. Our new MAILING address is P.O. Box 462, Mexico, Maine 04257
