As we close this chapter of our SPARTS™ FIFA series, we turn from the historic generation of 1974 to the new generation carrying Haiti’s football legacy forward today.

After more than five decades, Haiti has officially returned to the FIFA World Cup. Les Grenadiers qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup through CONCACAF competition, marking Haiti’s second appearance in tournament history since its landmark debut in 1974.

Led by head coach Sebastien Migne, the national squad represents a modern generation of Haitian footballers competing across international leagues while continuing the legacy established by the players of 1974. During the 2026 FIFA World Cup group stage, Haiti is set to compete against Scotland, Brazil, and Morocco on football’s global stage.

The 2026 squad includes:

• Head Coach: Sebastien Migne

• Goalkeepers: J***y Placide (who's also captain), Alexandre Pierre, Josue Duverger

• Defenders: Ricardo Ade, Carlens Arcus, Martin Experience, Jean-Kevin Duverne, Duke Lacroix, Wilguens Paugain, Hannes Delcroix, Keeto Thermoncy.

• Midfielders: Leverton Pierre, Danley Jean-Jacques, Carl Sainte, Jean-Ricner Bellegarde, Woodensky Pierre, Dominique Simon.

• Forwards: Duckens Nazon, Frantzdy Pierrot, Derrick Etienne Jr., Louicius Deedson, Ruben Providence, Josue Casimir, Yassin Fortune, Wilson Isidor, Lenny Joseph

This team photograph reflects a new era of Haitian football while honoring the generations that helped carry Haiti onto the world stage decades earlier.

Haitian Mother’s Day post caption:

Happy Haitian Mother’s Day! Bòn Fèt Manman Ayisyen! 💐

Celebrated on the last Sunday of May, Haitian Mother’s Day honors mothers, grandmothers, and maternal figures whose love, sacrifice, strength, and guidance continue to shape Haitian families, communities, and future generations both in Haiti and throughout the diaspora.

In Haitian culture, mothers are often recognized as central pillars of family life and community support. Haitian Mother’s Day is celebrated with family gatherings, church services, flowers, music, meals, and heartfelt expressions of gratitude honoring the important role mothers play within Haitian society and culture.

Haiti celebrates Mother’s Day on the last Sunday of May, following a tradition also observed in several other French-speaking and Caribbean countries. The date differs from the United States observance earlier in the month and has become an important cultural celebration of mothers throughout Haiti and Haitian communities around the world.

Today we honor the resilience, care, wisdom, and enduring contributions of Haitian mothers everywhere. Tag a mother or mother figure who has inspired and uplifted you.

The Haiti national football team of 1974 represents one of the most historic generations in the country’s sports history.

Under the leadership of head coach Antoine Tassy, this squad earned Haiti’s qualification for the 1974 FIFA World Cup in West Germany after winning the 1973 CONCACAF Championship. Their achievement marked Haiti’s first appearance on football’s biggest international stage and brought international recognition to Haitian football during the 1970s.

Composed of players from across Haiti’s football community, this national selection reflected years of development, discipline, and regional competition that helped establish Haiti as one of the leading football nations within the Caribbean during this era.

This team portrait documents the players and staff who helped shape a defining chapter in Haitian football history through teamwork, preparation, and hardwork.

This photograph is part of a documented historical archive of Haiti’s 1974 national team.

Born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, Emmanuel “Manno” Sanon was one of the most iconic footballers in Haitian history and a defining figure in the nation’s 1974 FIFA World Cup journey.

As a forward, Sanon played a central role in Haiti’s attacking line during its historic 1974 FIFA World Cup campaign in West Germany. In Haiti’s opening match against Italy, he scored a historic goal which is Haiti’s first-ever World Cup goal, ending Italian goalkeeper Dino Zoff’s world-record clean sheet streak (1,142 consecutive minutes without conceding a goal) in international football at the time.

That moment brought global attention to Haitian football and remains one of the most celebrated achievements in the country’s sports history. Sanon later became recognized internationally as one of the most important figures in Haitian football history and was included among France Football magazine’s “Les 100 Héros de la Coupe du Monde” (100 Heroes of the World Cup).

Sanon was part of a generation of Haitian players who developed through regional competition and international exposure, ultimately forming a squad capable of competing at the highest level of international football.

10 Years of Little Haiti, Miami 🇭🇹

On May 26, 2016, the City of Miami officially recognized Little Haiti as a designated neighborhood, honoring decades of Haitian history, culture, migration, and community-building in South Florida.

Although the neighborhood had long been informally known as “Little Haiti,” the official designation marked an important moment of cultural recognition and preservation for Miami’s Haitian community and diaspora.

Formerly part of a historic Miami neighborhood known as Lemon City, Little Haiti became a center of Haitian life in Miami during the late twentieth century as Haitian immigrants and families established homes, churches, businesses, restaurants, markets, and cultural organizations throughout the area. Haitian activist and community leader Viter Juste, recognized as the founder of Little Haiti, helped organize and support Miami’s growing Haitian community during the 1970s while advocating for Haitian immigrants across South Florida.

Over the years, Little Haiti has become known for its vibrant arts, cuisine, music, murals, businesses, and cultural institutions that continue to celebrate Haitian heritage and identity. At the same time, redevelopment and gentrification have raised ongoing concerns about affordability, displacement, and preserving the neighborhood’s historic and cultural character.

Today, Little Haiti remains an important cultural center for Haitians in Miami and throughout the diaspora. As we recognize ten years of official designation, we honor the generations whose contributions helped shape the community known today as Little Haiti.

Observed on the last Monday of May, Memorial Day is a United States holiday dedicated to honoring and remembering the soldiers who lost their lives while serving in the United States Armed Forces.

Originally established following the American Civil War as a day of remembrance for fallen soldiers, Memorial Day has since become a national observance recognizing military service members from all branches and generations who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their country.

Today, Memorial Day is commemorated across the United States through ceremonies, memorial gatherings, community events, moments of reflection, and the placement of flags and flowers at military cemeteries and monuments.

Today we honor the courage, sacrifice, and service of those who gave their lives in defense of others. We also extend gratitude to military families and communities who continue to preserve their memory and legacy.
