“Look deep into nature, and you will understand everything better.”
– Albert Einstein
Chicago installation artist Yva Neal of Yva Neal Design brings new awareness to street art with her MOSSome installation in the Wynwood neighborhood of Miami for Art Basel 2013. Yva feels that in our digital world, we have lost focus of our natural surroundings. Her MOSSome installations bring awareness of one’s
place in the Universe by using natural materials in unpredictable locations. She feels that nature has the ability to teach us if we take the time to see and interact with it. MOSSome installations blend natural materials with the urban and modern. She uses a combination of preserved and living mosses, mushrooms, and other organics along with LED technology to create whimsical vertical landscapes. Every installation is unique and will change color based on the environment it’s located. Patterns start to emerge as the sun changes the mural. Moss does not die but only goes into a state of dormancy. When watered the moss re-animates, creating lush designs that are soft to the touch with aromatic earthiness. When asked what kind of artist she is, Yva replies “CREATIVE RADIATOR”. She has the ability to see an empty space and create an immersive environment that reveals an engaging narrative. She transforms spaces, whether it be for a one-night event, or a permanent installation for public, commercial, or residential locations. Like in nature, everything has its time; it’s cycle of life. She invites you to reconnect with nature, suspend your disbelief and reintroduce a sense of awe and wonder into your day. LOOK DEEP INTO NATURE asks you to take pause and notice your surroundings.
