It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Rosa de la Cruz. Rosa will be remembered for her unwavering passion and keen eye, leaving behind a legacy that has significantly impacted the landscape of contemporary art in Miami.

A philanthropist and patron, Rosa de la Cruz was not only a collector but also a driving force behind numerous exhibitions, projects, and initiatives that elevated the work of artists. Her dedication to pushing the boundaries within the art world has left an enduring legacy.

A tireless advocate for education, Rosa and her husband Carlos played a pivotal role in fostering creativity and innovation within the Miami art community through scholarship programs that have impacted the lives of thousands of students from New World School of the Arts and Design and Architecture Senior High.

The loss of Rosa is deeply felt and she will be remembered with admiration and gratitude.

Our thoughts and condolences go to her family, friends, and all those who have been touched by her passion for the arts. She is survived by her husband Carlos and her 5 children, 17 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Miami Foundation, continuing Rosa’s commitment to supporting students. Links in our bio.

🎨 We are thrilled to announce that Rosa and Carlos have gifted a major installation by assume vivid astro focus (avaf) to The Bass Museum as a permanent addition to their collection. Founded in New York in 2001, assume vivid astro focus is an ongoing collaboration between Eli Sudbrack (b. 1968, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) and a diverse group of international visual and performance artists.

This kaleidoscopic installation holds a special place in the history of the de la Cruz Collection, having adorned Rosa and Carlos’s home
for the past two decades. Originally installed in 2004, these works capture a pivotal moment in Miami’s art history, coinciding with the rise of Art Basel in the city. We know this work will find a home at The Bass Museum, ensuring its enjoyment by the public for years to come. . 🌟

We were thrilled to have Elizabeth Bejar, Provost, Executive Vice President, and Chief Operating Officer of FIU, Rogelio Tovar, Chair of FIU Board of Trustees, and Tori Arpad-Cotta, MFA Chair, join us for an enriching day, as we turned the museum into an immersive learning space! 🖼️ BFA candidates from FIU embraced the museum as an extension
of their classroom, delving into the collection and contemplating questions of authenticity and aura as it relates to artwork in a digital age. Special thanks to all the talented students who made this day wonderful! And thank you to Rosa and Carlos for making this opportunity for learning possible! 🎨✨
