Zhou’s method involves capturing photographs of reflections and then carefully adjusting the compositions digitally, an act he likens to the unnoticed voyeurism prevalent on the internet and social media. The paintings feature a mixture of hyperrealistic elements, such as door handles and letter boxes, set against the abstracted forms of human silhouettes. The technical process balances brushwork that ranges from broad strokes for blurred portions to fine detailing for clarity, creating a tactile quality that contrasts with the ephemeral subject matter.”
