About Esther Cruz

Maria Esther Colombo de Cruz, internationally known as Esther Cruz, knew what she wanted to become since an early age. “Designing and Painting are the most important things in my life”. When she was five or six years old, she drew houses and made paintings for her sister and brother and thought that she was going to be an architect and artist/painter. She studied Architecture at

the University of Architecture and Urbanism, in Cordoba, Argentina and finished her Bachelor Degree in Architecture and Master ’s of Art at Florida International University (FIU). She also took painting courses in France and Holland. Her artwork took a special vibrancy when she moved to Miami in 1981. For the past twenty years in the United States of America, Cruz has shown her artworks all over the world in art museums, galleries and auctions in Europe, Latin America and the United States: Art Fairs such as Art Miami, Art Americas in Miami Beach, Florida, ArtExpo in New York; International Art Fair in Frankfurt, Germany; Barcelona in Spain; Livorno, Venice and Perugia in Italy; Paris in France; in the United States in New York City; Santa Fe in New Mexico; Miami, Miami Beach, Coral Gables, Dania, Orlando and Bal Harbor in Florida; in South America, in Quito, Ecuador, and, of course, in her beautiful homeland, Argentina, in various cities like Buenos Aires, Rosario, Santa Fe and her hometown San Justo, Santa Fe. Her images are simple, seemingly rudimentary even, but profoundly personal as quoted by the art critic J. Cruz believes that color influences the entire human body. From itself, even if completely abstract and geometrical, it has its own inner sound. Certain colors are reinforced by certain forms, offering new possibilities and harmonies. The following quotation about Cruz ’s paintings, “a form can either delineate a real object or it can be totally an abstract entity”, was stated by a German newspaper in Cologne, June 1996. Furthermore, she was also called “the darling of the audience” during the art exhibition of this city. Likewise, Rios, the art critic, pointed out: “her paintings are the result of passion, contemplation, and extensive training as an architect and artist, and this is apparent in Esther Cruz’s beautiful paintings. She was awarded the Silver Medal at the International Women’s Art Fair in Stockholm, Sweden, and, in the USA, she created and painted an 800 foot-long mural for the Jackson Children’s Hospital Foundation at the University of Miami Neonatal Unit. In 2010-2013, Cruz participated in many Art Auctions, and galleries. Cruz has also participated in art exhibitions in Art Museums. Frost Art Museum in January 2012 and Casa de Cultura, Museum in Argentina just to highlight a few. She was involved in the Art Auction to benefit Florida International University School of Medicine and Architecture. Some of her wake has been displayed in Art galleries all over the world, such as Buenos Aires, Argentina, Bogota, Colombia, Barcelona, Spain, and New York.
