Fun art fact!

The farm couple depicted in Grant Wood’s “American Gothic” were, in fact, the artist’s dentist, Dr. B.H. McKeeby, and his sister, Nan Wood—seen posing next to the iconic painting in 1942.

“American Gothic” returns to our galleries after making its first trip overseas. Stop by and celebrate its homecoming!

If you're in the NYC area this summer and you like art, this exhibit at the Gavin Brown outpost in Harlem looks interesting! Quote: "At Gavin Brown, the work produced in these classes is hung in the same space as Belott’s 'forgery' canvases and the drawings from Rhoda Kellogg’s collection. A party for the nascent artists—plus parents and friends—will close out the exhibition in July."

Rhoda Kellogg knew that kid's scribbles were worth studying. In Harlem, Brian Belott has staged an unmissable homage to her legacy.

A great read about what must be a fascinating and eye-opening art exhibit and activity in NYC hosted by ProjectArt NYC. If you're in the area, check it out! One of my favorite quotes from the article (although it was hard to pick just one): Artist Sanford Biggers says, “Arts education is more than just learning the skills to produce art. It’s thinking outside of the box, creative problem-solving, and improvisation. It increases visual and historical literacy—qualities that can positively affect any field.” We couldn't agree more.
