The Meigs County museum will be closed next Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving, and Thanksgiving day, but will be open on Friday and Saturday. Have a nice Thanksgiving.

We are pleased to announce Jim Freeman has a new book out as shown below. He will be in attendance at our 150th Anniversary Celebration, although won't be able to stay long due to a prior commitment. He will be there from 2:00 - 2:30 to answer questions and autograph books, which will sell for $10.00 each. We hope you join us for an enjoyable afternoon.

About the author:

J. Lee “Jim” Freeman is a seasoned writer and storyteller with a diverse background in journalism, military service, and conservation. A graduate of the Ohio University E.W. Scripps School of Journalism and the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy, Jim spent over three decades crafting news articles and columns for the former Ohio Valley Publishing Company.
His experiences as a sergeant major in the U.S. Army Reserve, including a year of service in Iraq as an engineer platoon sergeant, have shaped his understanding of human resilience and the power of storytelling.
As a conservationist, Jim works with local government and private landowners to protect soil and water resources. His passion for history, trivia, and the outdoors is reflected in his writing.
Jim draws inspiration from a wide range of authors including Louis L’Amour, Robert Heinlein, Allan W. Eckert, and J.R.R. Tolkien. His goal is to tell stories that are both engaging and thought-provoking.
His first novel, Northern Lights – Ghost of Beaver Island was selected as Winner: 2025 Literary Global Independent Author Awards – Faction – Fiction Based on Fact; Finalist – Historical-Fiction, Debut-Fiction, while his second novel, Starlight Sonata – Annabelle of Beaver Island was selected as Winner: 2025 Literary Global Independent Author Awards – Fiction-Midwest; First Finalist – Historical-Fiction, Cross Genre.

The Meigs Co. Museum will be closed next week but we will be at Foster-Jenkinson Log Cabin at the Meigs Co. Fair. Open hrs. will be Wed. 1 to 5PM, Thurs. 10 to 5PM, Fri & Sat. 1 to 5PM. We will have raffle tickets to purchase for 3 handmade quilts and 7 handmade baskets made by Kayte Mullen. Proceeds go to the elevator fund for the 1872 Hall Complex. Drawing to be at the 150th anniversary event of the Meigs Co Pioneer and Historical Society on Sept 6, 2 to 5PM. You do not need to be present to win. If you have questions call the Museum this week 12 to 4PM at 740-992-3810,
Regular museum hrs. will resume August 20th.

We have gotten inquiries about how to purchase tickets for the quilt/basket raffle to be held on September 6th at our 150th Anniversary Celebration. For those interested that cannot make it to the museum during our open hours of Wednesdays through Saturdays from noon until 4:00 pm, you may send a check written out to Meigs County Historical Society, and our office staff will complete the tickets for you. Our mailing address is PO Box 145, Pomeroy, OH 45769. We also accept PayPal. We are listed under Meigs County Pioneer and Historical Society. You can also find us under our phone number, (740) 992-3810. It is important that you furnish the information requested for the ticket stub. You do not need to be present to win; however, we welcome your presence at our Anniversary Celebration. We thank you for your interest!!
