Here we go! It is Middletown Fair Time! This is so exciting. I found a few very old photos of the fair that I will be sharing with you this week. We would love for more current and former Middletown residents to follow us on this Historical Society page to see and learn about our history. Share with family and friends!

Here is another history photo from Middletown. This station was on the north west corner of Locust and 10th Street. Look closely and you will see the roof of the old Cossack Gym.
Photo from Ted Wisehart.

By chance, does anyone know who the two men are in the photo?

Can you believe having to wash your clothing like this?

Larry Bennett, one of the board members from the Middletown Fall Creek Historical Society, published this information on 3 different “Washing Machine” manufacturing companies that were located in and around Middletown. In its day these were considered high tech. Then shortly before World War II electric washing machines started becoming available. My favorite photo of this group is a load of completed wood washing machines, being hauled by a horse drawn wagon, from the west end of Middletown on Locust Street, heading east and going past the old home that burned a few years ago, and has sense been torn down. The home was on the south side of Locust Street just west of the intersection with 8th Street. Be sure to read and look at these photos showing the technology of the day. Thanks Larry for publishing.

This is a look inside the old Moore’s drug store that was located in the Tykle building on the north west corner of 5th and Locust Street. It would have been in the part of the building that now has an apartment on the main level labeled 102.

This is a historic postcard photo. The building to the left is currently the only building still standing and is on the south east corner of 5th and Locust Street. The IORM building burned down several years ago and was the next building to the south. The large brick building was the Welsh Hotel. It would have stood where the brick home is located now, right at the Dietrich Park entrance on 5th Street.

New Middletown building to look at. In the last few years the top of this building was covered over with a wood facade. Not sure of the reason. But I finally found an old photo of the building showing what is written under the wood. Hopefully some of you will remember this. We are hoping the new coffee shop opens in this location! Click on the photo to see the details above the flags.

Here are 3 local buildings from the Middletown Historic District that I published about in 2022. I thought they were worth reading about again.

The building on the right is on the South East Corner of Locust and 5th St in Middletown. It is one of the oldest buildings to remain standing in Middletown. It survived the IOOR building that burned, that was attached to the south side of the building. The white building is the former Middletown City Building and is on the North East corner of 5th and Locust. It was the City Building, Police Station and Fire Department . The far left building is currently the Middletown News, and at one time contained the NAPA business.

The current vacant building, once the Farmers Bank in Middletown. It was built approximately 1912. While it is currently empty, the building is structurally sound. Hopefully a new business will be able to turn it back into a magical place for our time.
