Today is Kidcity's 25th Birthday! We're basking in the memories of all the playtime with little ones, all the artists, all the workers, and all the volunteers who have made this place part of their story for the past 25 years. We've never shown this before, but here's a throwback video from this date in 2018 with the TRUE STORY of how we built Kidcity. Don't forget to say YES!

oh and we'll have birthday surprises for our visitors and old friends who pop by in the next few weeks (until they run out). Be sure to make a reservation to come play!

We just got our 1000th google review! Thank you to everyone who takes the time to write about their Kidcity experiences (even if it's the kind we have to learn from!). We love being back open and seeing families make memories together.

The museum is now open 9 am to 4 pm, 7 days a week, and we still require online reservations at KidcityMuseum.com. The calendar has 30 days of openings so you can plan ahead (winter weekends and holidays fill up quickly!)

Hope you come play soon!

Thank you our friends at Amato's Toy and Hobby Middletown for hosting Kidcity's WHAT THE DUCK duck!

What's WHAT THE DUCK? It's part of the Go PINK Project which raises money to fight cancer here in our community through Middlesex Health.

Come to Downtown Middletown, CT and you'll see 50 decorated ducks at businesses up and down Main Street until October 28th.

Of course, Kidcity couldn't just decorate a duck...we had to make it something you could play with! So we started imagining a televsion show, called ROLLERDUCKS, about a world where everyone is a rubber duck and roller derby is their *everything*. Our painted duck shows characters from the show (or at least who we imagine might be on our imaginary show): the underdog FEATHERBRAINS, the stylish MAD MALLARDS, the rough and ready DUCK DEVILS and the former champs, the down-on-their-pluck FLAPPERS. Now we want to know...WHO WILL WIN THE DERBY?

We figured with such a popular show, there would probably be merchandise tie-ins, so we made some real-life ROLLERDUCKS that you can play with outside of Amato's during their business hours.

While you are downtown, be sure to see all the ducks and vote for your favorite at www.middlesexhealth.org/whattheduck.

For a long time now, we've been building a new exhibit at Kidcity...and we finally opened it at the end of the summer! For us exhibit makers, it's been an adventurous three-year journey to a tiny imaginary village that's kind of like Sicily and kind of like Middletown. Now that the room is open, it's a joy to see families filling the dolphin fountain with a rain of scarves and taking a (pretend) spin on the vespa. Thank you to The Middletown Press for visiting today and writing about "La Piazza".

We also wanted to let you know that Kidcity is still open by online reservation only, at www.KidcityMuseum.com. Until now, we were only making reservations one-day-in-advance, but we've now opened the schedule up a month in advance. Come play!

Great activity for older kids in downtown Middletown!

Wondering about the giant whale you can see in the window at the old Irreplaceable Artifacts/Woolworth's building at 428 Main Street? The public is invited to help sew an even bigger whale with artist Kat Owens. The next community sewing session is Thursday, Dec. 23 from 10 am to 2 pm and you can find the schedule for upcoming weeks at www.KatOwens.com. This is a great free activity for families during school vacation!"

Kidcity was open for free this summer, but our capacity has been limited, and we know there are families who wanted to come play but could not get a slot. So...

Kidcity is extending our free admission from Tuesday, September 7th through Sunday, September 12th. Online reservations are required through our website, www.KidcityMuseum.com, for Kids (ages 1 to 7) and their favorite Grown-ups! We are posting the calendar one day at a time - and the openings go up at noon for the following day.

We'd like to send a big THANK YOU to the State of CT, and especially the Office of the Arts at the Department of Economic & Community Development for providing free admission to Kidcity and SO MANY MUSEUMS this summer. We hope you had fun!

Well, Hello There!

We’ve been quiet about making updates, but it’s been a hive of activity inside Kidcity lately! Our staff (now all vaccinated) has gathered and is getting the museum back into form after more than 15 months of closure. We’re sprucing up and scrubbing all of our exhibits and upgrading our ventilation system. We’re almost ready for visitors!

We plan to start slow. For the first few weeks, we will limit visitors to the very patient families who had an active membership when Kidcity had to close. We hope to start those members-only days on Wednesday, June 23rd, and we’ll reach out directly to members by mail and email with specific details (** see below). Later in July, we hope to be ready to open to the public.

We will have a new system for reserving an entry time through our website — we’re going to be operating at a lower capacity so everyone has plenty of room to play comfortably.

Things are just a little more complicated these days! In addition to making a reservation:

• We will require masks for everyone who’s had their second birthday (24 months & up)
• We will take temperatures before entry (consider testing at home before you come…)
• To start, we’ll be open Wednesday to Sunday, 10 am to 4 pm.
• We’ll be doing even more cleaning than we did before, and you’ll notice smaller numbers of props as we switch them out frequently.

We won’t be enforcing a 6-foot distance, but we’re asking that families are mindful of how much time is spent in each area so everyone gets a turn without feeling crowded (especially our under-age-two visitors who won’t be wearing masks).

We'd like to apologize in advance, because we know our new reservation system means we won't always have an open slot when you want to come play! This won't last forever -- our policies will change frequently as we learn what works, so before each visit, please check our website or our FB page.

We are loving being back in the museum, although we miss some of our team-members who have moved on to other adventures. And, we miss all of you! We can’t wait to welcome you all back to play. It won’t be long now. Thank you for sticking with us as we get back to (non-profit) business!

** If you had a membership when we closed…you have one now! Memberships were frozen and you’ll have just as much time left as you did when we closed (your membership will re-start when you make your first visit, or October 1st, whichever comes first). FYI, we won’t be selling or renewing memberships for a while till we figure this whole thing out. Keep an eye out for a letter or email from us! If you have any questions about your membership status or you want to update your address/email with us, just FB message or send an email to [email protected].
