We inspire exploration and interaction with the arts, science, history and culture. The Museum of the Southwest is a multidisciplinary institution founded in 1965. The Museum is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums and has spent more than 50 years serving the Midland and West Texas communities by producing exhibitions, programs and events about art, archaeology, history and science. The

Museum of the Southwest is comprised of the Turner Memorial Art Museum, Marian Blakemore Planetarium, Fredda Turner Durham Children's Museum, and a public sculpture collection. All-campus admission of $10 for adults, $5 for children gains entrance to Turner Memorial Art Museum, Marian Blakemore Planetarium, and Fredda Turner Durham Children's Museum.

In 1970, we added the Thomas Galleries, giving us more space to showcase art and store our growing collection.

In 1987, the Wagner Wing expanded us even further, adding exhibition space, collection storage, and room to prepare and handle artwork with care.

Each expansion was driven by the same thing: our community's hunger for more art, more science, more opportunities to learn and explore together.

Sixty years in, we're still growing—because you keep showing up, bringing your families, and proving that culture matters in West Texas.

Located in Midland, Texas, MSW is a multi-disciplinary cultural institution celebrating its 60th anniversary year. Our six-acre campus includes an accredited art museum housed in the historic Turner Mansion, a hands-on Children's Museum, and a nationally recognized Planetarium — serving thousands of visitors, members, and community partners each year.

We're looking for a dynamic leader with a passion for the arts, proven nonprofit management experience, and the vision to build on a strong foundation.

In honor of the Turner Mansion's 90th anniversary, we're inviting you to our Behind the Scenes Tour to see and hear the stories that have shaped this landmark for generations.

Every Saturday at 2 PM to get an up-close look at the history, architecture, and heritage of one of West Texas' most beloved historic treasures.

🎨 On display in the art galleries: Midland Art Association (), Evolution of the Museum, and Big Skies, Open Roads by Texas artists

🏠 Every Saturday at 2 PM, tours of the Turner Mansion. Tickets are $20 for adults (ages 13+) and $10 for children (ages 5 -12) and include the tour and admission to the campus.

👧👦 Programs for Little Ones
• Works of Art - Tues. & Thurs. 11 AM & 4 PM | Ages 4+
• Music at the Museum - Wed, 4 PM and Fri, 11 AM & 4 PM | Ages 4+

This is the last Works of Art and Music at the Museum until August! We'll be switching up programming for the summertime - stay tuned for more information.

The Children's Museum will be closed May 11 - 18th as we prepare for our summer exhibit, Texas Backyard!

🪐 Young artists + outer space = something seriously cool.

St. Ann's School 5th graders have been exploring the universe through art! Each student partnered up to create two pieces, one imagining a planet, the other bringing its exoplanet landscape to life. The results are creative, colorful, and absolutely worth seeing in person.

The "Exoplanet Designs" exhibit is on display in the Blakemore Planetarium for a limited time, so make the Museum part of your routine this week and come see what these young scientists and artists dreamed up!
