Many thanks to the folks who put on RecFest Bluegrass Festival! We thank you for sharing info about Milaca's amenities - we had so many interesting and engaged visitors at Milaca Museum! We appreciate our RecFest organizers and all the great people who participate!

Join us for the last MAHS meeting of 2024, Tuesday October 22 at 6:30 p.m. at Milaca City Hall. We will be reviewing the year's activities and covering some year end business (elections, financial, etc.). We will also have time to talk about winter work, which may include:
Repairs and maintenance
Refreshing and revamping exhibits
Preparing for 2025 outreach programs

If you are interested in participating in winter work, please come!

This is the last week (September 25, 26 ad 27) of regular museum hours at the Milaca Museum. During our closed season, we do welcome researchers and visiting groups by appointment. Please contact us at [email protected].

Our photo shows the city hall auditorium (now Museum) in 1944, though it's unknown what this gathering was about. The draft board? A city meeting? It's a busy place!

Come to the Milaca Area Historical Society's September meeting Tuesday, September 24, at 6:30 at Milaca City Hall. Business will include nominations for some board positions, to be voted on at the October 22 meeting.

We're coming to the end of the 2024 museum season (last day is Friday, September 27), so it's time to have a conversation about winter work and plans for 2025.

Thanks to everyone who visited the Heritage Building at the Mille Lacs County Fair. We always enjoy working with our colleagues from the Mille Lacs County Historical Society and Mille Lacs Lake Historical Society. And best of all, sharing local history with our visitors! We always learn so much putting an exhibit together. Hope you learned something, too!

Come to the August MAHS meeting Tuesday, August 27 at 6:30 p.m. at Milaca City Hall.

We will be showing the 1928 film “Battle of the Sexes” … no, not the one about the 1973 tennis match. This one stars Milaca’s own Belle Bennett. Popcorn and lemonade will be served!

Join us at the Heritage Building at the Mille Lacs County Fair, August 7-11. The Mille Lacs County History Alliance will once again work together, this time focusing on communication – oral, written, electronic – and how communication technology has changed over time.

The Heritage Building will be staffed 10-5 each day of the fair, and Doug Ohman will once again be presenting three of his fascinating history slide shows on Friday afternoon, August 9.

The Mille Lacs County Historical Society, the Milaca Area Historical Society, and the Mille Lacs Lake Historical Society cooperate at the County Fair to bring the stories of the whole county to fairgoers. Don’t let your history be a mystery!

"Number, please ..."
The Mille Lacs County History Alliance will be at the County Fair Heritage Building again this year (August 7-11), and the exhibit will be about the history of communications. To prepare for this exhibit, Milaca Area Historical Society wants to gather more information about the development of the local telephone system.

Come to the MAHS May meeting Tuesday, May 28 at 6:30 p.m. at Milaca City Hall. We'll share what we've learned so far - and hope you can help us learn more!

(These operators are working the switchboard upstairs from the drugstore in the 1950s or 1960s.)
