Embracing Nature our June featured show.

The new show for June at the ARTery Gallery in Milford called Embracing Nature is sure to delight both art and nature enthusiasts. Potters, Scott and Debbie Helfand, and printmaker Carol Lyons invite you to step into a world where the beauty of the natural landscape is honored, celebrated, and transformed into art you can hold in your hands.

Retired educators Scott and Debbie Helfand spend their time exploring the natural world and expressing their love for the environment through clay. Their work is inspired by their desire to promote environmental stewardship. Through design and decoration, they seek to create pieces that inspire others to join them in protecting the environment. Debbie expresses her fondness through hand-building with clay. She often includes upcycled fabrics and natural elements in her pieces and enjoys incorporating whimsical themes. Scott works with a variety of media, including clay, glass, and steel, often combining materials to create aesthetically functional works. Debbie and Scott are committed to promoting Peace, Equality, Inclusion, and a cleaner, healthier environment for our collective future by creating aesthetic, functional art that celebrates environmental friendliness and incorporates themes of nature.

Carol Ann Lyons is currently a private practice art therapist and has been an artist and printmaker for over 40 years. She is a professional conservator of books and artwork on paper. Her clients include Princeton, Simon & Schuster, the New York Botanical Garden, Sony, and lovers of fine art and printmaking in the metropolitan area. Her favorite experiences with the natural world are the simple micro-moments throughout the day that bring her joy, happiness, peace, or gratitude. Her work is allegorical as she explores the relationships she creates and what the natural world encounters within its environment. Carol’s recent prints and paintings are expressed by using acrylic paint on wood, paper, and cloth. Her training as a professional printmaker leads her recent realistic series as a prerequisite to her future woodcuts and monotypes.

You can enjoy the remarkable work of the Helfands and Carol Lyons at the ARTery gallery from June 11th through July 6th. The public is invited to visit with them and enjoy refreshments at their opening reception on Saturday, June 13th, from 6-9 pm.

Our first featured show for 2026 is Obversity.

On May 7th, the ARTery Gallery in Milford opens a new month-long show celebrating the idea of obversity by bringing together two artists whose paintings are different yet intrinsically linked. Barbara LaTorre, who has become a popular artist at the ARTery over the past few years, and Len DeLuca, a newcomer to the ARTery, both have a flair for characteristically strong expressions in their art. Yet, LaTorre’s landscapes lean toward representational subjects while DeLuca’s “dreamscapes” delve into total abstractions. If you like shows full of energy and color, you won’t want to miss this one.

Barbara LaTorre is a self-taught artist renowned for her expressive use of color in landscapes, florals, and animals. Through years of independent study and online courses, she developed two impressionistic styles: one with bold brushwork and another with palette knives and mixed media to create striking, eye-catching 3D effects. Both approaches highlight freedom, energy, and vibrant contrasts, reflecting her joyful perspective inspired by nature. In addition to the ARTery, her work is available at The Art Factory of White Mills, Pa, and online.

Len DeLuca is a versatile artist blending photography, drawing, painting, and repurposed materials, inspired by surroundings, emotions, and visual memories. His process emphasizes experimentation and discovery, often revealing layered imagery. With a background in graphic design and fine arts from Pratt Institute, he has exhibited in galleries in Manhattan and Brooklyn, reflecting a dynamic, evolving artistic practice rooted in personal and environmental exploration.

You can meet Barbara LaTorre and Len DeLuca at their opening reception on Saturday, May 9th, from 6-9 p.m., which includes refreshments. The ARTery welcomes the public to this free cultural event. The exhibit will be on display from Thursday, May 7th, through Monday, June 8th. Daily hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursdays through Mondays.
