One of our leading lights has been Dick Platt - here posing with his euphonium. A former Town Historian of Milford, he has led our annual bus tours of the Town for as long as I've been around!

This is the Soldiers Monument in Milford Cemetery. It commemorates Revolutionary War prisoners of war who were dropped off in Milford Harbor on January 1, 1777 by a British prison ship, most of whom had been infected with smallpox. Local militiaman Capt. Stephen Stowe cared for the men and was himself fatally infected and died on February 8, 1777. As part of our annual reunion, we visit the Botsford Boulder, adjacent to the monument.

This is Anna Botsford Comstock, pioneering naturalist and first female professor at Cornell University. Starting as an illustrator of her husband's entomological research, she went on to author "Handbook of Nature Study", a textbook still in use today. She was among the first to take her students out of the classroom and into the field. She created nature study programs for New York's high schools and, in 1923 was heralded by the League of Women Voters as one of the twelve greatest living American women to have "'contributed most in their respective fields for the betterment of the world.'"
