DC GALLERY & STUDIO SUMMER 2026 OPEN CALL PROSPECTUS: AMERICAN IDENTITY

For DC Gallery & Studio's 2nd annual summer open call, we are looking for emerging & established New Jersey visual artists’ unique interpretation of “American Identity”.
New Jersey is known as the crossroads of revolution because more Revolutionary War battles happened here than in the other original 13 colonies. As we reflect on the 250th anniversary of the founding of our nation, we ask New Jersey based visual artists to ponder the following questions when creating artwork:
What is our identity as Americans? What stories are important to us? What values and truths do we hold dear? What ideas are we against? What are we most proud of? What do we envision for our future? How will we move forward? What does revolution mean today? What do we stand for?
Through this exhibition of contemporary art, we hope to examine our current national identity to mark a clear path ahead for our future as a nation.
This art exhibition is open to all mediums & materials. 2D artwork cannot exceed 48 inches in any direction & 3D artwork cannot exceed 48 inches or 50 lbs. This exhibition is open only to visual artists living or working in New Jersey. Artists may submit up to 2 pieces of artwork for consideration in this group exhibition. There is a $25 submission fee for up to 2 artworks.
Exhibition Dates: June 19 - July 31, 2026.
Opening Reception: Friday, June 19, 2026, from 6-8pm at DC Gallery & Studio.
Closing Reception: Friday, July 17, 2026, from 6-8pm at DC Gallery & Studio.
All submissions are due by midnight (11:59 PM) on Monday, June 1, 2026.

Introducing Accumulations exhibiting artist Jeni Prescott!

Jeni Prescott is a self-taught artist who spent much of her young adult life travelling & collecting different ways to express her love of patterns, counting, & repetition. She learned to knit from a German woman crocheting from a Venezuelan man. Jeni learned to weave beads from a New Yorker, and to knit with beads in Colorado. Prescott then spent a few years in Mexico honing those skills before settling in East Kensington, Philadelphia. There she spent a decade in a band using percussion as the outlet to her rhythmic tendencies. Prescott turned to ink in 2016 to continue exploring these themes & began using acrylic paint in 2021. Jeni now lives in the Manayunk neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

DC Gallery & Studio is thrilled to welcome paintings by Philly based visual artist Jeni Prescott in our brand-new spring exhibition, Accumulations.

Join us for the Accumulations Opening Reception on Friday, April 17, 2026, from 6-8pm at DC Gallery & Studio.

At the opening reception of Accumulations, meet both the exhibiting artists, enjoy light fare, drinks & great company. We are excited to also welcome musician Ava Cooper who will be playing harp during the reception. As always, this event is free and open to the public.

ACCUMULATIONS EXHIBITION OPENING

This spring, we're pleased to present contemporary visual artists Jeni Prescott & Kristina Ricci in our brand-new exhibition, Accumulations.

Mark your calendar and join us for the Accumulations Opening Reception on Friday, April 17, 2026, from 6-8pm at DC Gallery & Studio.

At the opening reception of Accumulations, meet both the exhibiting artists, listen to live music, enjoy light fare, drinks & great company. We are excited to welcome professional harpist Ava Cooper who will be playing during the opening reception. As always, this event is free and open to the public; we hope you join us!

Our new exhibition, Accumulations, is on view in our gallery from April 17 - May 31, 2026.

- All artwork submissions will receive a selection decision via email by midnight on Wednesday, June 3, 2026.
- Accepted artists are expected to drop off their artwork on Friday, June 5, 2026, from 11am-2pm or Saturday, June 6, 2026, from 11am -2pm.
- After the exhibit, artists are required to pick up their artwork on Friday, August 7, 2026, from 11am-2pm.
