Attendees for the book launch of Milton’s Historic Musings Thursday evening May 9 will receive a free bonus in a bookmark inscribed with a poem Phil Watson penned about Andrew Pratt. Pratt is the only freedom seeker known by name to have been harbored at the Milton House during its days as a stop on the Underground Railroad before and during the Civil War. Pratt’s story is a key element in the Milton House being named a National Historic Landmark. Phil has given hundreds of tours at the Milton House and was inspired to write this heartfelt and insightful poem about the life of Pratt, having told Pratt’s story to thousands of students, youth, and adults who have toured the museum in recent decades. Pratt’s story is also one of several dozen told in the new Historic Musings book published last month by Doug Welch and the Milton College Preservation Society. The 227-page chronicle of Milton’s unique histories is the first comprehensive study of Milton in nearly 50 years. The book includes over 350 historic photos of Milton, Milton Junction, and Milton College. Thursday evening Main Hall on the former Milton College campus will host a book launch and signing for Welch’s latest book. The event will run from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Welch will be on hand to sign and discuss the book. Food and beverages will be provided for this celebration of Milton's unique histories.
