Hi everyone! Repost reminder we have a fun, engaging walking tour next Saturday, June 20th, from 10-11:30am. “Milton Memories with Jack Hudson”-For Father’s Day Weekend! Tour our historic town on foot with Jack Hudson, our board President! Hear his neat, interesting and sometimes funny tales of growing up here in this little Delaware town! It’s a favorite and not to be missed! RSVP/Prepay required-email [email protected] with your name and number and we will call you to sign you up! 10.00 for members, 15.00 general public.

PS-pictured here is a special baseball cap from vintage Milton high school days-we sold out and have a few more that just came in, available for participants/Dad for this special weekend! The old high school maroon and gold M! Go Warriors! Let us know if you want a cap! We can reserve one for purchase. They are 30.00.

Throw-Back-Thursday Time celebrates that on this day, June 4th, 1919, Congress passed the 19th Amendment, giving women the right to vote in the United States. Locally, we want to honor Miltonian Ida Fox, who was a local theater/business owner during this time. She allowed Suffragettes to give a speech on the steps of her Milton theater (the Fox Theater) in 1915. She waited outside the voting office on August 20th, 1920 (the day after the official ratification of the amendment) and was determined to be recorded as the first women to register to vote in the State of Delaware. Armed with sandwiches and coffee in the wee morning hours, she camped outside the local voting office. As soon as the doors to the office opened at 6am, she made sure her name was officially recorded first! Ida is buried in Goshen Cemetery and if you’d like to know more about her, we have a display in the museum dedicated to her, and she’s also included in our historical cemetery tours.

We had a really neat guest at the museum this week-Gloria Davis, who is part of the Spencer family from Milton, came to MHS (our museum is an old church), and told me her great grandfather worked in the button factory here long ago, her grandmother worked in the shirt factory, and her grandfather was a lay minister in this church (thus taking her picture in front of the ministers’ window in the museum). Her great-great grandfather, Miltonian Josiah Bailey, was a cobbler in town-way back in the 1800s. She’s living history and it’s invaluable to hear stories of the past from living memory. We will interview her for our oral history recordings here at the museum. It was nice to meet you, Gloria!

Throw-Back-Thursday time, folks! We have for you today the Douglass and White Shirt and Overall Factory, circa 1909. It was located on Atlantic Ave. near Union St. Successful for many years, the factory employed many young women in Milton. It is featured along with many other photos in our current exhibit on Milton photography, “Milton in Black & White”. Enjoy!

You guys! Thanks for coming out to our Mother’s Day Goshen Cemetery Remembrance Ceremony today-we put flowers on graves of Milton Mothers, heard a bit about their lives in historic Milton, and gave flowers to gravesites not touched in over 100 years in some cases! Happy Mother’s Day, Everyone!🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
