Lynden Sculpture Garden

Lynden Sculpture Garden The former home of Harry and Peg Bradley opened to the public in May 2010. The Lynden house and grounds were purchased by the Bradleys in 1927.

The Lynden Sculpture Garden offers a unique experience of art in nature through its collection of more than 50 monumental sculptures sited across 40 acres of park, lake and woodland. They retained the Chicago landscape architects William Langford and Theodore Moreau to transform the flat farmland, with its small farmhouse and barn, into an English country garden. The lake and rustic bridge spannin

g the water were designed to match Harry Bradley’s memories of the municipal grounds in Kansas City where he swam as a boy. In 1962, Peg Bradley—already an experienced art collector—began collecting the contemporary monumental sculptures that secured Lynden’s international reputation. She collected actively until her death in 1978, often inviting artists to Lynden to site their works. The collection includes sculptures by Alexander Archipenko, Henry Moore, Barbara Hepworth, Clement Meadmore, Marta Pan, Tony Smith, Mark di Suvero and many others. The Lynden Sculpture Garden is committed to promoting the enjoyment, understanding, and appreciation of art, sculpture and the environment through the exhibition of art and sculpture, educational experiences and connections with the community. Educational programming will focus on the intersection of art and nature, providing hands-on experiences that integrate Lynden’s collection of monumental outdoor sculpture with the natural ecology of the site. In preparation for opening to the public, the house and a portion of the grounds have been transformed using sustainable building and landscaping practices.

In our eighth year of recognizing World Refugee Day, the HOME Refugee Steering Committee at the Lynden Sculpture Garden invites you to join us for a series of free, family-friendly events that celebrate Milwaukee’s refugee communities through art, food, poetry, and performance. Our theme for 2026 is We Belong/You Belong: Joy and Unity Against the Odds.

According to the United Nations, “World Refugee Day was first celebrated on June 20, 2001 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 1951 Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees. On World Refugee Day, we celebrate refugees’ contributions and seek to build empathy and understanding for their plight and their resilience to build a bright future.”

We begin with a World Refugee Day Community Celebration on Saturday, June 20, at the Lynden Sculpture Garden from 11 am to 4 pm. Organized as both a resource fair and a celebration of many cultures, visitors will be able to make art, sample food, and enjoy stories, poems, music and dance, and gather information on local services for refugees.

We celebrate World Refugee Day again on Monday, June 22 from 11:30 am to 2 pm at Milwaukee City Hall. The event, co-hosted with the Wisconsin Department of Children and Families – Bureau of Refugee Programs, will include a children’s art exhibit, performances of music and dance, poetry from refugee communities, hands-on art-making activities, and food trucks.

On Saturday, May 9th spend time at Lynden working with our land team to inoculate sustainably harvested logs with oyster mushrooms.

The workshop begins with a walk through the grounds to learn about the poplar trees harvested for this project and their role in Lynden’s ecosystem. There is an optional step in the inoculation process using power tools. Safety glasses and gloves will be provided. Then we’ll head back to the studio to inoculate the logs together. Each participant will leave with their own oyster mushroom log to take home!

Please dress for the weather and a walk through muddy terrain.
Due to environmental factors, fruiting success may vary.

Fee: $60 / $51 members
