Today is the anniversary of the Doolittle Raid, April 18, 1942. From the deck of the USS Hornet, Lt. Col. Jimmy Doolittle launches his bombers for an air raid on Tokyo. Wisconsin native Admiral Marc Mitscher commands the Hornet task force and Doolittle's B-25 bombers are named in honor of Milwaukee's General Billy Mitchell.

Watching coverage of the Artemis II mission around the moon this week has been fun and historic. Earlier in the week, a voice recording of Jim Lovell was played for the crew as part of their morning wake up. Later, astronaut Jeremy Hanson showed an Apollo 8 beta cloth patch that had flown around the moon back in 1968.

Did you know that the Gallery has beta cloth patch on display as part of our Jim Lovell display? It is from Apollo 13 and accompanied him on the mission.

The next time you're in the Kenosha area, stop off at the Kenosha Regional Airport public terminal. They have a nice display of WWII Army Air Forces items as well as their old airport beacon. This isn't everything, just a sampling!
