This is a technique we sometimes use to carve a wood statue. The sculpture is first created in clay for the client's approval. Once approved, we create a plaster mold. From the plaster mold, we cast a plaster positive.
We developed this duplicating machine from some linear slides from Amazon and an old router. We use this to rough out the wood blank, when we get close enough, the rest is finished with chisels. This piece is currently about 80% complete. The blank is Basswood, it cuts like buttuh.

In addition to sculpture, baptismal fonts, etc., Wanner Sculpture Studio also offers furnishings and fitments. These table bases are for a local restaurant, 2" black steel pipe bases. The bottom ring required one of the pipes to be cut, welded and finished after everything is threaded in place as NPT pipe is right hand threaded.

Here is the finished St. Joseph sculpture. We also made a crown for Mary, a sculpture my father made years ago. I had forgotten we also made a bronze baptismal font for this parish as well 20+ years ago until I saw it!

Water test day is still brings a little anxiety even after 30 years of making these. No leaks but better to check now before it gets shipped away and installed! For this project, we will have created the bronze bowl, steel inner support structure, fiberglass lower collection pool, plumbing fittings, and wood cabinet (cabinet not yet constructed, more photos to come).Our friends at Water Structures are designing and building the pump system, all will be shipped to a hospital in Minnesota for installation.
