Thank you East Town Association for shining a spotlight on the Charles Allis Art Museum and the Villa Terrace Decorative Arts Museum at this Thursday’s Jazz in the Park!

That’s right, friends, our beloved museums will be the nonprofits of the night this week. Tell all of your friends to stop by our booth on the north end of Cathedral Square to mix, mingle and potentially walk away a winner through our 50/50 raffle.

Want to make your Labor Day even more special? We've got you. Invite your friends, family and neighbors to the our final VOICESFREED! 2018 Summer Playwright Series featuring NUBIAN STORIES by Nabra Nelson!

Based on a true story, NUBIAN STORIES is a play about loss and legacy set simultaneously in the past and present. It transports us to the village for a brief moment and makes us realize how far we are from a not-so-distant history that is being erased.

Remember when we said that the August 13th reading of Caridad Cvich's Town Hall was going to be a piece of theatre that explored who we are... and who we might be? And that we believed it would feel like a jazz quartet riffing on various themes about issues in the world today?

Based on the feedback that we received, we were right. You shared that:
>> You liked the theatre-in-the-round staging because it was more in line with the non-traditional nature of the play itself.
>> You felt that not only did the play make you think in the moment, but you also had to let it sink in a bit to fully internalize its themes and formulate your thoughts around them.
>> You were surprised by how much you enjoyed being challenged by the content, which kept you engaged from beginning to end.
>> You thought that the intersection of voices made for a beautiful concert on a perfect summer night.

We couldn't agree more! Thank you once again for attending the reading.

________

Our final play of the season will be Nubian Stories, which is a new piece by Milwaukee playright Nabra Nelson. This reading, directed by Suzan Fete, will be presented in partnership with Renaissance Threatre Works. Watch for more details soon.

It's not too late to join us for tonight's reading of Town Hall, written by Obie Award winner Caridad Svich.

Tonight's performance will be a piece of theatre that explores who we are... and who we might be. In fact, some say it feels like a jazz quartet riffing on various themes; four voices in a lyrical conversation about issues in the world today.

That sounds pretty cool to us. Should we save you a seat?

We chose the playwrights for VOICESFREED!, this summer's Sarah's Salon playwright reading series, because we wanted to shine a spotlight on women authors.

Caridad Svich, the Obie-winning author of this month's play, Town Hall, is a leading voice on this topic. (See article below.)

Don't miss your chance to hear Ms. Svich's work at our August 13th reading! Presented as a public meeting of four voices in conversation, this play tackles many of the issues our society is grappling with at this very moment. Reserve your seat here >> http://voicesfreed.eventbrite.com

A woman pretending to be a man who was pretending to be another man. Whoa... that was trippy!

We had a blast hanging out with you until the wee hours of the evening following our reading of Aphra Behn's The Dutch Lover.

If you thought that was amazing... wait until you see what we have in store for you next month when we feature Town Hall by Caridad Svich (http://bit.ly/caridad-svich), recipient of the 2012 OBIE Award for Lifetime Achievement in the theatre!
