To our Friends of the Warehouse Art Museum,

After thoughtful consideration over many months, we are announcing that the Warehouse Art Museum will not reopen its doors as a physical space. Instead, WAM will transition into a collaborative role with other established institutions.

The five-year history of WAM is rich with unforgettable exhibitions, unique collaborations, and profound community connections. Every visitor, artist, academic, curator, and staff member contributed immeasurably to this remarkable journey. At WAM, Serr & Shannon practiced what they believe and live, that all the arts are connected––the visual, performing, and literary arts.

To our WAM friends: Thank you for being an integral part of our story. Whether you visited us once or one hundred times, your presence and unwavering support fueled every exhibition and event we hosted. You helped shape this unforgettable adventure, and for that, we are deeply grateful.

To the artists and curators who enriched our programs: We extend our sincere gratitude for the exceptional curation, talks, tours, and demonstrations you shared. Your willingness to journey, whether a short drive or a long flight, brought unique expertise and ideas that resonated deeply with our team and visitors alike.

To our incredible team, past and present: Your passion, creativity, and dedication were the foundation of WAM. You made complex endeavors seamless, and your unique talents and countless hours were vital to the institution we built together. Thank you for your belief in and commitment to this project.

While this chapter of a physical space closes, we see this not as a goodbye, but a see you later. Our collection and past exhibitions will remain accessible online at WAMmke.org, preserving the legacy of our work. Furthermore, The Serr & Shannon Collection will continue to be available for institutional loans and academic research; interested parties should contact: [email protected]

Stay connected with us for updates on our collection and future projects by joining our e-mail list on our website.

Our deepest gratitude goes out to everyone who shared in our journey over the past five years. We sincerely hope your enthusiasm for the arts endures.

Warmest regards,
Your friends at The Warehouse Art Museum
Jan Serr & John Shannon, Co-Founders

🎥 VIDEO NOW AVAILABLE:
In November of 2022, artist William Kentridge braved the below-freezing temperatures of Milwaukee, Wisconsin to visit the Warehouse Art Museum’s newest exhibition, William Kentridge: See for Yourself.

A one-of-a-kind show, this exhibit featured over 45 years of the artist’s work in addition to more than 28 events and performances. These events included the American debut performances from Kentridge’s Centre for the Less Good Idea, a world premiere performance presented by Present Music, Philip Miller (Cape Town, South Africa), and Eliza Kentridge (London, England). Additionally, in grateful cooperation with WAM, Kentridge presented a lecture at the Lubar Auditorium, Milwaukee Art Museum; the lecture was live streamed to an international audience of more than a thousand viewers in addition to a capacity audience in the hall.

In this video, William Kentridge talks with Museum Co-Founder John Shannon, Exhibition Curator Melanie Herzog, and Videographer Stacy Nash, with a focus on process, personal philosophies, and artwork in the exhibition William Kentridge: See for Yourself.
