October 1930's - Milwaukee Fire Department, WI. With its firefighter equipment removed, and alarm boxes placed in the hose bed, this engine took the important message of fire prevention to the public. The firefighter seems to have captured the attention of school children in demonstrating how to use alarm boxes.

October 1922 - Milwaukee Fire Department, WI - Beginning with its inception in 1915, Milwaukee's Fire Prevention Bureau went to great lengths to convey its message to the public. The activities during October's Fire Prevention Week included turning apparatus into billboards pleading fire safety. This image of a Seagrave truck and the Battalion Chief standing nearby was captured in 1922.

Let’s change the stigma around su***de—one conversation, one check-in, and one green shirt at a time.

The Milwaukee Fire Department is launching Green Shirt Mondays to raise awareness about mental health and encourage people to reach out for help. Wear any green shirt on Monday, and take a moment to check in with a coworker, friend, or loved one. A simple “Are you OK?” can mean more than you know.

Our Yellow Rose Su***de Prevention Shirt honors those affected by su***de in the fire, police, and EMS communities. Designed without department or rank affiliation, it represents a united commitment to supporting one another—and anyone who needs help, anywhere.

Don’t be afraid to ask how someone is doing. And if you’re struggling, please reach out to someone you trust, your local peer support team, or call or text 988 in the U.S. You matter, and you don’t have to face this alone.
