🎨 Meet the Artist 🎨
On Friday the 16th, artist John Fleissner will be at the museum to discuss his work with guests and answer questions about the show, his process, and his experiences organizing in Milwaukee.

⛓️‍💥Gallery Day Freedom March⛓️‍💥
Saturday, October 17, 1-2PM | John will lead us in a Freedom March using picket signs taken straight from the exhibition. We will rally at the museum at 1:00 PM before marching south on Prospect Avenue to Lincoln Memorial Drive.

☕️ Coffee at the Allis ☕️
Saturday, October 17, 12-3 PM
Coffee will be available in the Great Hall courtesy of Ashley Harrell. The menu includes basic hot and iced coffees, as well as specialty lattes and seasonal flavors!

Last month, we had the pleasure of opening our doors to the Milwaukee community, and you showed up! Thank you for making The Charles Allis Art Museum a stop on your 2026 Doors Open adventure. We welcomed over 1,100 guests into our Tudor style mansion, and connected with neighbors and friends over the house-wide exhibit “Strike at Allis Chalmers and Other Wisconsin Stories” by Artist in Residence John Fleissner.

You still have a chance to see the current AiR exhibition for FREE before it closes later this month. On October 16 & 17, the Allis will be open for Gallery Night Gallery Night MKE from 5-8pm on Friday and 12-4 on Saturday.

Gallery Night MKE Preview 🎨

Strike at Allis Chalmers and other Wisconsin Stories | This exhibition explores the struggle of the Allis-Chalmers workers in their heroic strike for union security and higher wages at the West Allis plant first in 1941 and 1946. These workers organized a powerful union, United Auto Workers 248, which became the backbone of the broader Congress of Industrial Organizations in Wisconsin.

Their strike was met with repression, water cannons, and armored vehicles. The union’s militant story is told through a large scale woodcut, historical photos, film and ephemera. This Exhibition also explores other Wisconsin working class history, social movements, and folk culture, depicting a history and art practice for the many.

Join artist Christina Lopez-Prado for comprehensive cyanotype workshop at the Charles Allis Art Museum on October 3rd! Cyanotype is an ultraviolet light sensitive photographic printing process that produces stunning Prussian blue images. All materials are included - just grab your favorite knickknacks, flowers, or sentimental keepsakes and immortalize them in a cyanotype composition!
