I’m re-posting this because I saw the original on my grid and the photo looked extremely compressed after uploading it. I think it was because it was taken in hdr. And this one probably was too, but hopefully it doesn’t look as washed out as the other post.

This event is part of our ongoing flash day series celebrating eco-friendly practices. This month we’re taking the lead from and encouraging y’all to get tattooed with us as we continue to shrink our plastic use in the shop. You can see Scott’s plastic-free station set up here with biodegradable cling wrap, ink cups, rinse cups, and drape sheets as a great example.

Just a few pics of how the old shop turned out. I moved in there in 2014 and it took years to renovate all 3 rooms. It turned out great and I’m stoked to see what the next tenants use it for. As for me, I’m still chipping away at the NEW Akara Arts in Milwaukee’s lovely south side. I’ll miss Bayview but I’m excited to show y’all what I’ve been up to…

SAVE THE DATE! Akara Arts is teaming up with our good friends over at Coffee Wizardz to bring you an Earth Day event to make the shop more eco-friendly than ever.

Saturday April 26th 9:30am-6:00pm get your day right with a drink from the espresso bar or a cup of nitro cold brew, snag new, limited edition shop merch collabs, fill up on vegan egg rolls, and snag a tattoo from one of our three artists tattooing day-of. NOTE: all tattoos will be scheduled BEFOREHAND with Scott, or directly• walk-ins are for merch, coffee, and food ONLY!

will have a special Earth Day menu and be serving up Scott Lashay x Coffee Wizardz merch collabs. Stop by for this rare Milwaukee appearance of the custom coffee cart and the hunky team running it.

Tote bags are designed and printed in collaboration with Scott and and mall safari tees are from and Scott.

I hemmed and hawed about posting these for a while. This sleeve on my good friend is healed and most of has been for months. I asked myself if I should touch it all up for a photo that would present better on a 1 inch square. Ultimately I chose to present it healed and unfiltered-ish (photographed with .tattoos sweet polarized lights). Large tattoos just don’t present that well on social media and that’s mostly what I do. I think it’s honest to show what these will really look like healed and I work hard to get it to stick. Thanks for looking.

Dharmachakra and mucilinda backpiece on my dear friend . This has been healed almost a year without touch ups. The dharmachakra represents the path to enlightenment and this is done in a stylized version of the ubiquitous motif found in Southeast Asia. Mucilinda represents protection, historically for Buddha during his transformative meditation. Both Romeo and I share this cultural background and it was an honor to do this for him.

This is Akara arts as I found it in 2014. I was the co-owner of a tattoo shop for a few years before this and afterwards I got this crazy idea of building my ideal space on my own, from scratch essentially. The buildout was long, difficult, expensive, and transformative. I’m extremely proud of what I did at this space over the years. Of course, it wasn’t totally alone. I was lucky become friends with Pops and the Dahl family, who put countless hours into this space as well. .
