New Era One Room School

New Era One Room School Living Heritage Museum/New Era One Room School Open by request year around . The facility then served as a community building for the Missouri Run area.

The New Era School was built in 1884 and served students in grades 1 through 8 until 1956. It was later turned over to the Wood County Association of Retired School Employees. In 1991, the Living Heritage Museum Project, a newly formed volunteer organization, acquired the building for restoration. The building was dismantled and moved 7 miles from Missouri Run to the Mineral Wells School campus fo

r reconstruction. The New Era School has maintained the integrity of its time with original desks, pot-bellied stove, slate chalkboards, oiled floors, pump, outhouse, and coal shed. Additional items make the schoolroom appear ready for Reading, 'Riting, and 'Rithmetic. New Era School Museum welcomes visitors of all ages. Come experience school in the way of the early 1900's. Informed docents will host your visit. Open by request also (e-mail [email protected])

We were privileged to host students from Ritchie Co., WV on May 15. Information from hosts Larry Maxwell and Colleen Redinger about early country schools was shared before a penmanship opportunity with pens dipped in ink. Play time recess with older toys and games followed. We welcome a chance to share our little school museum

We are grateful for the donations to New Era on the Day of Giving. Our current concern is mending the area around the edge of the roof and replacing some slate on the roof.
We are grateful for the yearly sum from the Levy that serves to help utilities, propane, maintenance, insurance, etc. ( Approved at meeting of Wood County Schools on July 6.)
Let's be here another 75 years!
